Corporal Punishment
Corporal punishment shall be limited to spanking or paddling the student, and such discipline shall be administered only in accordance with the following guidelines:
- The student shall be informed of the offense and be afforded and opportunity to explanin his or her actions before corporal punishment is administered.
- Corporal punishment may be administered by the shall principal, assistant principal, or a teacher.
- The instrument to be used in administering corporal punishment shall be approved by the principal or a designee.
- When corporal punishment is administered, it shall be done in the presence of one other District professional employee and shall take place in a designated place out of view of other students.
- Corporal punishment shall be administered in a reasonable manner, with "reasonableness" to be determined on the basis of factors such as size, age, and the physical, mental, and emotional condition of the student.
- A record shall be maintained of each instance of corporal punishment.
