DAY 49 : 29 JUNE 2001
• Banff, CANADA

Buzzing with beauty

Lake Peyto was our first taste of the stunning aquatic beauty of the region. Its brilliant turquoise waters took our breaths away, before we headed off to the equally scenic Lake Louise. Some of us went for a hike up to the Big Beehive, quite strenuous going up but well worth the effort and there was also a very nice tea shop/cafe half way up which proved to be too tempting to leave for some!

Banff & Glacier both look a little like this
DAY 51 : 1 JULY 2001
• Glacier National Park, USA

Follow that bear!

Ever since we were told that we'd entered bear country, many of us were eager to get a glimpse of the beasties and we discovered that where there were clusters of cars by the side of the road, there was sure to be something wild to look at. We did get one quite close sighting which took us by surprise, so few cameras were at the ready to capture the bear on film before it sensibly ran away from our van.

Our next sighting was in Glacier National Park and although it was at quite a distance, it was still exciting to see a mother bear and her three cubs through a pair of binoculars.
