THE
PILGRIMAGE TO SANTIAGO
TRIACASTELA
The
spiritual and human dimension of the Pilgrimage to Santiago. Every human
being needs to make sense of life. To make sense of the "whys"
which emerge from the deepest part of each of us. The questions,
like the answers, are infinite if we seek them at their true and
genuine source... Christ.
Every
human being needs to seek and to find their place in this world.
In order to do this we need to set out on the path and one of
the privileges we enjoy in Spain and in the world as a whole is
the Pilgrimage to Santiago- a human journey of both searching
and finding.
When should
you make the Pilgrimage to Santiago?

own, those who are with you on the path willlend you a hand.
Come and we will reach out to Jesus of Nazareth who is, was and
ever shall be the expert in understanding human beings THROUGH
LOVE AND WITH LOVE.
The
Pilgrimage to Santiago is:
A
worldwide spiritual reality
A
path of light
A
path for seeking and finding
A
path of peace and brotherhood
A
path of life and hope
A
journey of oneness where none are strangers and all are as
brothers
A
meeting point for brothers regardless of race or culture
Diversity
enriches us when we share it and impoverishes us when we close
ourselves up within ourselves believing it to be the right thing
to do. Before Jesus of Nazareth we are all equal. Those who
attempt to make distinctions between human beings end up
impoverishing themselves spiritually. The
Pilgrimage to Santiago is a journey Universality, in which we
all feel as one and each feels a part of a small travelling
universe, beyond the confines of nationalism. A living
brotherhood in which acceptance of each other overcomes trivial
differences. A path of fellowship and respect. A time of reunion
for the being that we are and the one we wish to be, with Jesus
as guide and hope. An opening onto the small world of each of
us, of each human being to understand the Universal nature of
Jesus.
The
Pilgrimage to Santiago is a journey that takes place within
oneself forgetting the idols that enslave us and seeking ideals
that lend us dignity. A journey which, in the desert of our
doubt, opens up our horizons, ights our way and helps us to see.
It helps us to live and gives us back our lives. It
helps us to discover ourselves and to discover the genuine and
distinct paths taken by those great pilgrims Christ and Saint
James. A
journey that helps us to be fair and free in our dealings with
others, capable of being natural and unaffected and setting to
one side the pride which impoverishes us. This
journey will help you to discover the love of Christ and to live
it to the full. A
personal discovery of Jesus of Nazareth is vital.
We cannot be
followers of Jesus by hearsay alone. Personal experience is
essential. On this journey we have to give our lives direction.
This is the
time to take a risk because our securities tie us down and
paralyse us, preventing us from loving.
Sometimes
Christ passes right by us and we do not wish to see him: In a
pauper, in a child,in an old person, in any life-seeking being.
Christ is to be
found on this life-journey, the Pilgrimage to Santiago. Can we
see him? Do we not wish to see him? Do we prevent others from
seeing him? Do we close their eyes to life? To optimism? To
hope? Do we keep them apart from the love of Jesus through the
din of our folklore? Sometimes we see a distorted Jesus. We are
all to blame for this. On the Road we can and indeed must
discover the genuine Christ
The real
pilgrim is he who sets out on the journey guided by the faith of
our ancestors who, like the ancient people of Israel, sought to
find answers.
The culture
which is to be found on the Road to Santiago springs from this
faith and is a reflection of faith. he entire culture one sees
on this Pilgrimage is an expression of Christian faith. To try
to see the culture without looking at its Christian roots is a
waste of spiritual time. It is fooling ourselves. The Pilgrimage
to Santiago is a journey of faith, not a cultural journey
without faith. The Road is to be lived not to be spoken about,
relying only on our usual simplistic view of things. The
Pilgrimage is whatever the pilgrim makes of it, acknowledging
that alongside the pilgrim are people who only want to turn it
into a tourist outing, a trek, or a holiday disconnected from
its sociological and spiritual context
However
we do need to prioritise our values on this searching journey
which nowadays in our society travels third class on the train
of our private lives
It is essential
that we set realistic goals if we are not to be weighed down by
life. Life should not be a burden for ahuman being. Let us look
upon life with hope in our eyes. And with faith and hope, let us
put Life back into our lives.
Let us believe
in love, not fear. If Jesus is Love, why do we fear Love so? On
the Road you should discover your true self and encounter that
interior world which at times doesn't let you see much beyond
yourself. The world needs you and your values. You need to
spread the message of Jesus' love
If
you are really seeking life, come to Santiago. Do not fear life.
Christ is waiting for us with open arms. He needs us all. It's
never too late. Do not lose hope. Come to Santiago and if you
search in the silence and in the Eucharist you will find life. If you come on the Pilgrimage, do not come as
part of a crowd. Solitude is necessary so that no one interrupts
your search. The Pilgrimage is not a race but rather an exercise
in spirituality
Do
not come in a hurry and at great speed, but rather in an
exercise of the spirit. Do not come in a hurry and at great
speed, live each stage in the development of your faith. Savour
what you find on the journey, seek to be yourself without
getting mixed up with the crowd. Think and you shall find
answers
It is never too
late for a personal meeting with Christ.
It is never too
late for joy.
It is never too
late to smile.
It is never too
late to share joy.
It is never too
late to find.
It is never too
late reflect.
It is never too
late, however late it be, to begin.
It is never too
late to discover yourself.
It is never too
late to learn to live truly in truth.
It
is never too late for anything, especially to love and to feel
loved in the LOVE OF CHRIST: Forget
the past, which is history and live the present, which is your
reality, project the future, which is hope. Do not let yourself
by paralysed in life like the pillar of salt which if not melted
gives no meaning to life. Discover
yourself, you will be discovering the faith of Jesus. A
christian must be light and hope to himself and others Come
out of yourself and you shall find others. May
God bless you.
