Autism is a complex pervasive developmental disorder that generally causes poor social and communication skills, as well as difficulty in reacting to the environment appropriately.         The severity of Autism is quite variable, causing it to be often called Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), to indicate the wide range of symptoms. The identical symptoms do not occur in every Autistic, yet there are some typical characteristics in Autistics.

Numerous controversies surround the nature of Autism as Autism itself
is very poorly understood. However, it is generally accepted throughout
the Autistic community that it is a MYTH that Autism is mental retardation,
Autistics are all savants, Autism is unchangeable, Autism is an emotional
problem, Autism is psychosis, Autistics choose to be Autistic, and Autism
is a fate worse then death.
