amygdala- neural structure part of limbic system in the brain's medial temporal lobe, plays key part in emotions

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) - a condition typically characterized by inattention, impulsivity and hyperactivity

Aspergers- A disorder primarily causing mild impairments in social skills.

Autism- A disorder causing poor social skills and difficulty in reacting to the situation appropriatly.

Childhood Disintegrative Disorder (CDD)- a disorder characterized by late onset of delays in language, motor skills and social skills.

disorder- any condition affecting the normal function of the mind or body

hippocampus- neural structure part of limbic system located on the floor of each lateral ventricle in the brain, plays key part in emotions and formation of memories

Hyperlexia- a syndrome causing an advanced ability to read but also a below normal ability to comprehend spoken language

hyposensitivity- abnormally low ability to respond to stimuli

limbic system- located in the brain, involved in emotion, behavior, olfaction, motivation, and various autonomic functions

opioid- any agent that binds to opiod receptors

pervasive developmental disorder- any of several disorders causing impairment and/or developmental delay in social interaction and communication as well as causing repetitive behaviors

Pervasive Developmental Disorder- Not Otherwise Specified (PDD-NOS) - a condition meeting many but not all of the qualifications for Autism

psychosis- A categorie of mental disorders, characterized by serious emotional disturbances causing loss of contact with reality and deterioration of normal social functioning.

Rett's disorder- a progressive neurological disorder causing autism-like behaviors, dementia, and loss of purposeful hand movements

Schizophrenia- A psychotic disorder marked by withdrawal from reality and society, illogical ways of thinking, delusions, and hallucinations.
