There is no known cure for Asperger Syndrome but there are multiple
treatments. These include:
  • Social Skills Training
  • Medications
  • Psychotherapy
  • Educational Intervention
  • Relationship Developmental Intervention (RDI)

Social Skills Training helps Asperger affected individuals how to behave in a socially acceptable way. For example, it may teach that person how to interpret and use body language appropriately.

There are no medications specifically for Asperger Syndrome, yet medicines may aid with hyperactivity, obsessions, anxiety, aggresion, inattention, and other issues. Medications used may be:

  • methyphenidate and desipramine- for hyperactivity and short attention spans
  • naltrexone and propranolol- for aggresion
  • fluvoxamine and fluoxetine- for obsessions and compulsion
  • imipramine and sertraline- for anxiety

Psychotherapy is the treatment of emotional or behavioral problems by psychological means. Used to treat some symptoms of Aspergers, it may be less stress-inducing then other therapies and may aid the individual in processing their emotions.

Relationship Developmental Intervention (RDI) is a relatively new intervention. It is based on the theory that "the core deficits in autism are rigid thinking, aversion to change, inability to understand others perspectives, failure to empathize, and absolute, black and white thinking. RDI breaks down many social skills and teaches them in a way that they become natural instinct.
