There is no substitute.

This page shows the cupholders that I installed in my S2.

I completely understand and agree with Porsche's decision not to put a cupholder in their vehicles. These cars were meant to be driven!!

However, in the United States, we view things differently. A cupholder here is an option that we can't seem to live without.

At the suggestion of a fellow Rennlist member, I sought out the cupholder shown in these pictures.
He had stated that he had bought it at Pep Boys, but I checked there, and they didn't have it.
I found it at Wal-Mart for about $4.00 each.

Here is the product data from the back of the package.
Bell Automotive Products
Des Moines, IOWA
Model No. 05407
Bell Automotive

Here is the cupholder installed on the driver's side air vent. I've since moved it from here to the center (see below).

Of course, to be symmetrical and since I occasionally have a passenger, I installed one on the passenger side as well.
I've also moved this one to the center (see below).

Although I don't condone cell-phone use while driving, I needed a place to store my phone while I was in the car.
This phoneclip was a nice alternative to having the phone clipped to my hip or in a pocket, both of which are uncomfortable while driving.
I bought this phoneclip from my cell-phone provider, who happens to be Voicestream

After trying a few different cups, I found that the A-pillar was a bit of a hinderance.
I decided to install them on the center vents instead of the outer vents, as above.

Note the screen saver on the phone. It came installed that way!!
(It was either that, or a bubbly fish!! Tough choice for an auto enthusiast, eh?)

I haven't given these a whole lot of testing yet, but so far, so good.

I have found that a soda can, medium Dunkin' Donuts ice coffee, and both hot and cold "Grande" Starbucks drinks fit fine.

However, with these units, as with any cupholder (in any vehicle), I wouldn't recommend "spirited driving",
especially around corners, unless you have plenty of napkins to wipe up the spill!!

I know for sure that if I participate in any autocrosses or track events, I'll remove these cupholders. I sure don't need them as an interference or distraction during those times!!
