18-Apr: Islamic regime provides N.Korea
with $500 million for missile development in exchange for an unknown
number of nuclear bombs and plans for nuclear weapons reprocessing
plants. 29-May: N.Korea's successful launched
ballistic missiles from Musudan test base on eastern coast near
Nodong with Islamic Revolutionary Guards present. Nodong-1 (also
known as the Scud-D) ground-to-ground missile has a range of 1,000
to 1,300 km. 16-Jun: IRGC commander General Mohsen
Rezai holds talks with N.Korean defense chiefs in Pyongyang, and
urges closer ties between the two nations. They sign a plan for
scientific, technological, educational, and cultural exchange. 17-Jun: Al-Sharq Al-Awsat, a Saudi paper
based in London, reports that there is a tripartite deal between
Iraq, Iran, and N.Korea in which Islamic regime will transship Iraqi
oil to N.Korea through the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas. The deal
is worth $120 million, and its proceeds are to be divided equally
between Iran and Iraq. The Iranian portion will be transferred to
the N.Korean bank, Changgwang, and is to finance the purchase of
"long-range" missiles from N.Korea. Iranian deputy defense
minister Ahmad Vahedi and IRGC representative Tabaghi are handling
the Islamic regime-N.Korean negotiations. 11-Aug: N.Korean Army First Lieutenant
Yim Yong-son defects to the South Korea. He discloses that N.Korea
is currently constructing two additional underground long-range
missile launch bases, one at Chunggang, Chagang Province and the
other at Wonsan, Kangwon Province. 08-Dec: As part of the sixth high-level
delegation to N.Korea in 15 months, Iranian Defense Minister Mohammad
Forouzandeh visits N.Korea to discuss technological cooperation. 20-Dec: Iran tries to obtain the capacity
to produce chemical and nuclear warheads which could be delivered
by the Nodong.
