Jessie Tinsley Hatcher Roanoke Times Tuesday, 5-1-1923

Jessie Tinsley Hatcher 70 of Bedford County,Va. died at his home Sunday, from an attack of heart trouble. The deceased was a farmer, and is survived by his wife. He was borned in Bedford County, Va. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at 5 o'clock from the Gravel Hill Church, and were conducted by Rev. William Parker. Interment followed in Gravel Hill Cemetery.

Miss. Martha Hatcher

Bedford County, Va July 26 (Special)

Miss Martha Hatcher died at her home near Union Church this county, Monday and the funeral service conducted yesterday. The interment was made in the family cemetery. Miss Hatcher was 75 years of age and a daughter of the late Spencer Hatcher.

Charles W Hatcher

Lynchburg July 28 (Special)

Charles W Hatcher, who would have been 83 years of age if he lived until August 5, 1923, died Saturday at his home near Montvale, Va. He was a Confederate Vetran haveing served through the Civil War. He is survived by his second wife, who was Miss Larus, of Richmond,and the following sons and daughters.: S L Hatcher, Wytheville, Va. : W H Hatcher, Montvale, Va. Mrs. A L Wooldock, Cuckoo; Mrs R J Morgan, Portsmouth, Va and Mrs J H Russell, Thaxton, Va. Two sisters Mrs Henry Scott, Lynchburg, Va and Mrs J E Pate, Washington, also survive.

The funeral of Mrs Mary Brown Hatcher wife of Dr. W B Hatcher who died early yesterday morningat the home of her daughterMrs Roy B Smith of Roanoke, Va, was conducted this morning from the home in Roanoke. Interment being in the Spring Hill Cemetery here this afternoon. A simple service was conducted from the home in Roanokeby Rev. M D Mitchell if the Trinity Methodist Church of that city. Immediately after the servicethe body was brought to Lynchburgarriving here on train #4 and Interment took place immediately thereafter. The service at the cemetery were in charge of Rev F L Bank pastor of Court Street Methodist Church. A beautiful solo was rendered by Louis Campbell "Face to Face" and a quartette composed of Louis Campbell , W C Sowers and Robert Watts sang "Jesus Lover of my Soal" two of the favorite hymns of the deceased. Those from out of town attending the services were, Mrs Beverly Wortham and Charles H Carson of Roanoke. The active Palbarrers were T D Christian, Ashby Watts, G E Vaughn, A R Long, John Victor, and Judge F P Christian. The honorary palbarers were John P Pettyjohn, Judge F W Whitaker, Robert S Jones, E E Manafee, Giles Miller, C R Smith, L H Adams, D M Penick, Dr. A W Terrill, and D H Howard.

Obit of Samuel L Hatcher

Funeral for Samuel L Hatcher , who died Sunday at his home in Vinton,Va., will be conducted at the Vinton Baptist Church at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon. Services will be in charge of Dr. Richard S Owens, and Rev. J W Liggett. Interment will be in Evergreen.

Dr. Charles M Hatcher

Lynchburg, Dec. 28(Special) Dr Charles M Hatcher 42 officer in charge of the United States Public Health Service at Presidio, Tx died there Sunday and his body will be brought to his former home here for burial. He had been stationed at Presidio for a number of years. He was a graduate of the Medical College of Virginia and entered the Navyin June 1917, being attached to the fifth marines. He saw service in France and was with the Army of occupation at Coblens Germany. Dr Hatcher was the eldest son of Mrs Blanche Fergusin Hatcher of this cityand the late Henry J Hatcher. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Janice Miller Hatcher, his mother, a sister, Miss M Elizabeth Hatcher, Lynchburg, two Brothers Thomas T Hatcher, Amhurst Va. and Heath M Hatcher Dumas, Tx.

Miss Meg Hatcher, 81 died at 3:45 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the home of her grandnephew, J M Putt 430 Winsdor Ave Virginia Heights, Roanoke Va. The body will be taken to Bedford county this morning and funeral service will be held at Mount Herndon Baptist Church at 3:30 o'clock Friday afternoon.

SMITH, Chester Arthur, 88, of 417 B St., Clifton Forge, died Tuesday, September 29, 1998 at the Shenandoah Manor Nursing Home. He was born in Clifton Forge on September 15, 1910, a son of the late Chester Arthur Smith Sr. and Charlotte Tomlin Smith. He was the owner and funeral director of the C.A. Smith Funeral Home, a member of the First Baptist Church and former deacon of the church. He was preceded in death by his first and second wife, Evelyn Hatcher Smith and Doris Scott Smith and survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Rev. Noel Taylor of Roanoke; and a son and daughter-in-law, Kent Donald and Beatrice Smith Sr. of Clifton Forge; one sister, Vonetta Parks of Clifton Forge; six grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Nelson; and three brothers, Walter, Clinton and Bryon Smith. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 3 p.m. from the First Baptist Church of Clifton Forge with the Rev. Noel Taylor and the Rev. Boyd A. Bullock Sr. officiating. Interment to follow in the Red Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Mountain Regional Hospice, 1417 Main St., Clifton Forge, Va. 24422. DISHMAN, Ruth Covey, 89, of Bristol, Va., died Thursday, October 1 , 1998 in Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was a native of Radford, but had lived in Bristol since 1922. She was the widow of Gilmer Dishman. Surviving are a son, Clarence Dishman and a daughter- in-law, Betty Wohlford Dishman of Bristol; two granddaughters, Ellen HATCHER of Lynchburg and Nancy Clawson of Durham, N.C.; one grandson, Michael Dishman of Bristol, Va.; one nephew, Craig Covey of Richmond; one niece, Martha Kiser of Abingdon and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 3, 1998 at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of State Street United Methodist Church, Bristol. MOORE, Katie Hatcher, 87, of Buena Vista, died Saturday, October 10, 1998 at Stonewall Jackson Hospital. She was born in Rockbridge Co., June 10, 1911 daughter of the late Henry M. Hatcher and Mary Ellen Hartigan Hatcher. Mrs. Moore was a faithful member of Glenwood Pentecostal Holiness Church where she taught the Adult Sunday School Class and was the church pianist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Moore and a grandchild, Elizabeth Darnel Painter. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Thurman and Rosa Farrow and Junior and Linda Painter all of Lexington; one daughter and son- in-law, Margie Painter Moran and Donald L. Moran of Buena Vista; one sister, Mabel Harrison of Natural Bridge; four grandchildren, Darlene F. Higgins, Sherry F. Swisher, Sarah Ruth Painter, and Shawn Moran; three great-grandchildren, Eric Higgins, Brian Higgins, and Tyler Swisher. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, Glenwood Pentecostal Holiness Church in Arnolds Valley with the Rev. Claude Floyd and the Rev. Ballard Shepherd officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Service, Buena Vista.

THOMPSON, Evans Leigh, 70, of Lexington, died Tuesday, November 24, 1998 at his residence. Mr. Thompson was born on October 19, 1928 in Rockbridge County, and was a son of the late William James Thompson and Ella HATCHER Thompson. He was a life member of the High Bridge Presbyterian Church, where he served God and his church by holding numerous offices and serving in many functions. He was a member of the Glasgow-Natural Bridge Prayer Group, and a past member of the Natural Bridge Ruritan Club. Mr. Thompson worked for the Rockbridge General Store for 32 years, and at the same time owned and operated Thompson's Greenhouse for 25 years. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Violet S. Thompson of Lexington; one son and daughter- in-law, Larry E. and Donna Thompson of Vinton; one daughter, Brenda T. Chaplin of Rockbridge Baths; one sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Lane Board of Christiansburg; three grandchildren, Tonya Thompson Scott, Daniel E. Thompson, Travis L. Chaplin; two great- grandchildren, Taylor Scott and Brian Thompson. A Christian memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, November 27, 1998 from the High Bridge Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Glenn M. Coleman officiating. The family will receive friends at 185 Mt. Vista Drive, Lexington, at any time. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Rockbridge Area Hospice, P.O. Box 948, Lexington, VA 24450. SHELTON, Helen Hatcher, 77, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, November 23, 1998. She was born September 4, 1921, in Mayodan, N.C., the daughter of Matt and Ada Hatcher. Surviving are her children, Linda Shelton and husband, Paul Hoke of Richmond, Carolyn Moore and husband, Tony, Douglas Shelton and wife, Jennifer, all of Roanoke, Susan Wood and husband, Barry of Vinton, Steve Shelton, Jane Shoemaker and husband, John, all of Roanoke; grandchildren, Toni Marie Wilmeth, Bryce Moore, Kelly Shoemaker, Tamasa Adams, Leslee Shelton, all of Roanoke. Funeral services will be at Oakey's South Chapel, 1 p.m. Friday, November 27, 1998 with Dr. Kenneth Adkins officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
