Blacksburg - Lillian ALLEN ELLIETT, 80, widow of Dr. Peter B. ELLIETT, died Sunday in a Richmond hospital. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Kate E. CRUMP, Richmond; a sister, Mrs. Beulah A. SHEALOR, Blacksburg; three brothers, Archie K. ALLEN, Jesse W. ALLEN, Buford H. ALLEN, Blacksburg. The body will arrive Tuesday morning at Hoy Funeral Home.


MRS. FANNIE P. ELLIOTT

Blacksburg, Sept 17 - Mrs. Fannie P. ELLIOTT, 70, died tonight near here. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. J. M. LINKOUS, Montgomery County; Mrs. Roy LONG, Newport; Mrs. William BRILLHART, Blacksburg; a son, Basil ELLIOTT, Pineville, W. Va.; a half brother, J. W. PRICE, Portsmouth; a half sister, Mrs. Marshall OWENS, Elliston; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Body is at P. D. Oakey Funeral Home.


JOHN H. EVANS

Blacksburg, March 6 - John Hamilton EVANS, 86, died at his home here today. Surviving are two sons and five grandchildren. Services will be at the home of a son, Frank EVANS, Sunday at 3 p.m. with interment in West View Cemetery.


MRS. LUNDY FAGG

Blacksburg, June 26 - Mrs. Lundy FAGG, 46, died Friday at her home at Norris Run. Surviving are her husband, two daughters, her mother, seven brothers, and three sisters. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Centennial Church at McCoy, with interment in the church cemetery.


MRS. JANE M. FENTON

Christiansburg, April 20 - Mrs. Jane M. FENTON, died early today at her home at Cambria. Surviving are her husband, W. H. FENTON, two sons, one daughter, one foster daughter, her mother, two brothers, one sister and on grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted at Alleghany church Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. Interment will be in Sunset cemetery, Christiansburg.


MRS. SAMANTHA GAY FERRIS

Blacksburg, Nov. 21 - Mrs. Samantha Gay FERRIS, 66, died Friday evening at the home of her sister, Mrs. D. K. ROBINSON, Blacksburg. Surviving are her husband, four sons, and three daughters. The funeral will be held at the home of Mrs. Robinson at 2 p.m. Sunday, with burial in the Robinson cemetery near Blacksburg.


DEAD MAN DISCOVERED IN MONTGOMERY FIELD

Blacksburg, Aug. 23 (AP) - Charles M. FLINCHUM, 53, contractor and farmer, was found shot to death yesterday in a cornfield on his farm, three miles north of here. Dr. C. F. MANGES, Blacksburg coroner, said the would was self- inflicted. Funeral will be conducted Thursday at 3 p.m. at the residence. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Heddy B. FLINCHUM; six daughters, Mrs. Alene HALE, Mrs. Nellie BISHOP, Mrs. Ethel HILTON, Mrs. Helen PARKER, all of Blacksburg; Mrs. Sue DAVIS, Mount Crawford; Mrs. Mildred MARTIN, Bell Camp, Md.; one son, William FLINCHUM, Blacksburg; nine grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Nora BURGESS, Basham; Mrs. W. B. SPANGLER, Christiansburg; Mrs. Pearl COLE, Salem; and two brothers, John FLINCHUM, Salem; and Sherman FLINCHUM, Roanoke.


WILLIAM O. FRITH

Blacksburg, Feb. 13 - William Oscar FRITH, 90, died today at the home of a daughter, Mrs. C. R. DAVIS, in College Park, Md. Also surviving are two sons, T. Dan FRITH, Blacksburg; Lawrence L. FRITH, Atlanta, Ga.; seven grandchildren. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at P. D. Oakey Funeral Home with burial in West View Cemetery.


YVONNE J. GENTRY

Blacksburg, Aug. 27 - Funeral for Yvonne J. GENTRY, 6, who died Monday in a Beckley, W. Va., hospital of injuries received in an auto accident Saturday on the West Virginia Turnpike, will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Blacksburg Wesleyan Methodist Church. A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. in Shady Grove Cemetery at Colfax, N.C. Surviving are her parents, the Rev. and Mrs. Eugene H. GENTRY, a brother and two sisters, Alfred, Phyllis Ann and Faye GENTRY, all of Blacksburg.


MRS. SARAH B. GRAY

Blacksburg - Mrs. Sarah BUCHANAN GRAY, 59, died suddenly at her home here Saturday afternoon. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. R. L. SCHOOLS, Portsmouth, and Mrs. W. W. PHILLIPS, Slidell, La.; two sons, E. B. GRAY Jr., Blacksburg, and Donald M. GRAY, Christiansburg; a brother, J. P. BUCHANAN, Burkes Garden. LESTER L. ALBERT

Blacksburg, Aug. 11 (Special) - Lester Lankford ALBERT, 62, died here Sunday morning at the home of his brother, J. E. ALBERT. He is survived by one daughter, two sons, three brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held at the Christian church Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. Interment will be in Westview cemetery.


HEATH C. ALLEN Blacksburg, Aug. 5. - Heath C. ALLEN, 57, died at his home here this morning. Surviving are his wife, four children and two brothers. Services will be held at Lusters Gate Union church at 3 p.m. Wednesday, with interment in Westview.


CHARLES E. ATKINS DIES

Blacksburg, may 21 (Special) - Charles Ellet ATKINS, 58, and for some years a prominent farmer and stockman of the Roanoke Valley section of Montgomery county, died suddenly early Tuesday morning at his home in Blacksburg. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the residence, conducted by the pastor of Whisner Memorial Methodist church, Dr. D.T. MERRITT. Burial will be in West View. Mr. ATKINS was the only son of the later Mr. And Mrs. John ATKINS and is survived by his wife, formerly Miss Zora WILLIAMSON, of the Riner community, and one daughter, Miss Louise ATKINS, a member of the nursing staff of the Altamont hospital, Christiansburg. He has many relatives in Giles county of which his parents were natives. His mother died two months ago.

Blacksburg, April 13 (Special) - Mrs. Victoria ATKINS, 87, widow of John L. ATKINS, died early today at her home in Blacksburg. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the home. Burial will be in West View cemetery.

Blacksburg, Nov. 21 - John W. BAILEY, 59, died today at his home in Blacksburg. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Irene KYTCHEN BAILEY; two daughters, Mrs. Alva ALTIZER, Riner; Mrs. Frederick HARMOND, Floyd; three sons, Pierson BAILEY, McCoy; Warren BAILEY, Newport; Arnold BAILEY, Blacksburg; a stepson, Edward KYTCHEN, U.S. Army; two brothers, Sidney BAILEY, Giles County; William BAILEY, Blacksburg; two sisters, Mrs. Julia NIECE, Blacksburg; Mrs. Mae LANG, Giles County; 12 grandchildren ad 1 great-grandchild. Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at P. D. Oakey Funeral Home with burial in Westview Cemetery.

Blacksburg, Oct. 24 - Charles J. BARKER, 76, died at his home near here Thursday night. Surviving are his wife, five sons, John. W., Frank J. and Charles W. BARKER, al of Blacksburg; C. Everett BARKER, Akron, Ohio; George C. BARKER, Cambria; four daughters, Mrs. Dennis YOUNG, Cambria; Mrs. Dallas DOWDY, Mrs. James DOWDY and Miss Bessie BARKER, all of Blacksburg; a brother, W. W. BARKER, Blacksburg; a sister, Mrs. L. F. BROWN, Roanoke; eight grandchildren. Funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at P. D. Oakey Funeral Home. Burial will be in the family cemeter. (Suspect this was late 50s/early 60s due to the partial used car ad on the back listing '54-'58 models for sale.)


HENRY J. BARNETT

Fincastle, Aug. 2 - Henry Joseph BARNETT, 47, died unexpectedly at his home here this morning. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Mary Vaden BARNETT, two brothers and two sisters: Claude BARNETT, Fincastle; Selma BARNETT, Daleville; Miss Lula BARNETT, Roanoke; Mrs. Jesse WILLS, Fincastle. The body will lie at Rader Funeral Home, Troutville, pending funeral plans.


MISS ROSA M. BARNETT

Blacksburg, Jan. 3 (Special) - Miss Rosa May BARNETT, 62, died today in a local hospital. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Nancy DOWDY, Montgomery county, and Mrs. Katherine THORNHILL, of West Virginia; and an adopted daughter, Mrs. Buford ALLEN of Montgomery county. Services will be held here at 2:30 p.m., tomorrow, at the home of Albert ALLEN, and burial will be in Westview cemetery.

Prices Fork - Tosh E. BARNETT, 74, died at his home here Saturday. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Bertha Sheppard BARNETT; three daughters, Mrs. John L. PEARMAN Jr., Mrs. Floyd NOONKESTER and Mrs. James PEARMAN, all of Prices Fork; three sons, Edward T. BARNETT, Archie Al BARNETT and Melvin V. BARNETT, all of Prices Fork; and 15 grandchildren. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Prices Fork Methodist Church, with burial in Snider Cemetery. The body will be taken from the P. D. Oakey Funeral Home to the residence at 7:30 p.m. Sunday and to the church at 1 p.m. Monday.


MRS. TOM BARNETTE

Blacksburg, Dec. 5 - Mrs. Tom BARNETTE, 68, died this morning at her home here. She is survived by her husband; six daughters, Mrs. Robert KEYS, Norfolk; Mrs. Ward DOSS, Mrs. Herman COOPER, Mrs. Arnold SHELOR, Blacksburg; Mrs. Irvin BLOUNT, Mrs. Nathan BATTY, Roanoke; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in Wesleyan Methodist Church with burial in West View Cemetery. The body will be taken from the residence to the church at 10 a.m.


MRS. HARRY B. BENNETT

Covington, Oct. 22 - Mrs. Bertha Henderson BENNETT died this afternoon in a convalescent home here. She is survived by her husband, Harry B. BENNETT; two sisters, Mrs. Clyde PRICE, Mrs. Ada MEADOWS, Blacksburg; a brother, Robert HENDERSON, Blacksburg. Graveside services will be held at West View Cemetery, Blacksburg, at 2 p.m. Monday. The body will remain at the home of J. G. BENNETT, Covington.


ACIE TOBEY BISHOP

Salem - Acie Tobey Bishop, native of Blacksburg, died Sept. 10 at his home in Salem. Funeral was held Friday, Sept. 13 in Salem and interment was in Sherwood Memorial Park. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Alene PRICE BISHOP of Salem; a son, Bruce Lee BISHOP of Salem; a brother, Jacob A. BISHOP of Blacksurg; three sisters, Miss Alma BISHOP of Salem, Mrs. David HEARN of Dublin, and Mrs. Dainty HUTCHINSON of Blacksburg.


BALLARD E. BISHOP

Blacksburg, July 29 - Ballard E. BISHOP, 66, of Blacksburg died today at Jeff. Ky. Surviving are a daughter, two sons, one sister and a brother. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Slusser's Chapel, with burial in the family cemetery.

Blacksburg - Mrs. Flora OLIVER BISHOP, 80, died Sunday in a Radford hospital. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Dainty HUTCHINSON, Blacksburg; Mrs. Lois HEARN, Dublin; Miss Alma R. BISHOP, Salem; two sons, Jacob A. BISHOP, Acie T., BISHOP, Blacksburg; a sister, Mrs. Virgie SMITH, Cambria; a brother, Bittle OLIVER, Glen Daniel W. Va.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The body is at Jones Funeral Home pending arrangements.

Blacksburg, Dec. 3 (Special) - Charles S. BLAND, 54, died suddently Tuesday morning near here. Funeral services will be conducted at the Baptist church at Cambria Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, with interment in Sunset cemetery at Christainsburg, Va

Leonard Ribble BLAND, 55, formerly of Roanoke, died Thursday in Elyria, Ohio. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Otis A. HARRIS of Roanoke; three brothers, Tommy, Stanley and Earl BLAND, all of Christiansburg; a sister, Mrs. Paul BLAIR of Pennsylvania, and three grandchildren. The body will be brought to Lotz. Blacksburg, Dec. 29 - Mrs. Lula Emma BLAND, 63, wife of E. H. BLAND, died in a Christiansburg hospital Tuesday morning. The funeral will be held at the home here at 2 p.m. Wednesday, with burial in Westview cemetery. Surviving are her husband, one son and five daughters.

MERRITT, Ahoskie, N.C., Mrs. Fred Allen, Joppa, Md.; four sons, Haven and Willard BLAND, Christiansburg, J. C. BLAND, Blacksburg, Ivan T. BLAND, Roanoke; a sister, Mrs. Miles BLAIR, Cornwell Heights Pa.; two brothers, Earl and Stanley BLAND, Christiansburg. Blacksburg, April 6 (Special) - Mrs. G. W. BUCHANAN, 51, died last night at her home here. Her husband, a son and two daughters survive. Services will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Lutheran church, with interment in Westview.

Blacksburg, April 4 - G. W. BUCHANAN, 60, died at his home here Wednesday morning. He leaves his wife, two daughters, a son, a sister and a brother. The funeral was held at Whisner Memorial Methodist church at 3 p.m. today and burial was in Westview cemetery.

Blacksburg - Miss Wanda Diann CROWDER, 20, died Thursday in a Richmond hospital. She was a 1960 graduate of Blacksburg High School and a Virginia Tech student until she became ill last summer. Surviving are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey G. CROWDER; a sister, Miss Judy CROWDER, at home; her grandmother, Mrs. Cary M. DAUGHERTY, Rural Retreat. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Blacksburg Baptist Church by the Rev. Richard T. HOWERTON. Burial will be in Roselawn Memory Gardens. L. WIRT of Vinton; Mrs. C. W. MARSHALL of Vandergrift, Pa.; Mrs. Phillip WEINSTEIN of Bellingham, Wash.; Mrs. Paul LINKOUS and Mrs. A. W. HUMPHREYS of Blacksburg. Services will be at the Wesleyan Methodist Church at 4 p.m. Monday, with interment in West View Cemetery.

G. Logan MARTIN, 73, retired merchant, died Tuesday morning at his home in Blacksburg. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Emma L. OAKEY MARTIN; a son, Oakey MARTIN, Blacksburg; and a brother, C. T. MARTIN, Blacksburg. Funeral services will be conducted at Oakey's chapel, Roanoke, at 2 p.m. today by the Rev. F. M. Richardson, of Blacksburg. Interment will be in East Hill, Salem.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ella DALTON NUNN; four daughters, Mrs. Bessie BLAND, Charlottseville; Mrs. Gertrude HALE, Blacksburg; Mrs. Gladys HOWERY, Cambria; Mrs. Irene STEIN, Fredericksburg; 20 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Montgomery Primitive Baptist Church with burial in Westview Cemetery.

Blacksburg - Mrs. Pearl Jones O'BRIEN, 62, died at her home Monday. Surviving are her husband, Ray O'BRIEN; three foster sons, Emmett Carl HUNGATE, Blacksburg, Henry R. JONES Jr., Hampton, and Jesse L. JONES, Newport News; a brother, Dries M. JONES, Blacksburg; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hoy Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Blacksburg, Sept. 18 (Special) - David LeRoy OLIVER, 25, son of Wiley and Mrs. Irene CAMPER OLIVER of Blacksburg, died late Monday night at a hospital in Christiansburg after a brief illness. Services were held today at the Oakey Funeral home and burial was in West View. Mr. OLIVER, who was a sergeant in the Blacksburg national guard, is survived by his parents and several brothers and sisters. JOHN OLIVER

John OLIVER, 66, of Blacksburg, died Saturday morning at Dublin. Suriviving are his widow, Mrs. Elsie OLIVER, two sons and a daughter: Russell OLIVER, Winchester; Byron OLIVER, Charlottesville; Mrs. Villet BLACKBURN, Norfolk; and two sisters: Mrs. J. W. ROBERTSON and Mrs. Ollie WOOLRIDGE, Roanoke. Funeral services will be conducted at Lotz funeral home at 2 p.m. Monday by the Rev. John T. COBURN and the Rev. B. A. JENKINS. Interment will be in Fairview.


MRS. JOHN CALVIN OLIVER

Elsie TYLER OLIVER, 68, of 814 Rorer Ave., SW died Friday in a Roanoke hospital. A retired practical nurse, she was the widow of John Calvin OLIVER. Surviving are two brothers, James Lewis TYLER, Montvale, Wiley Gordon TYLER, Roanoke. The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Lotz Chapel, Roanoke, with burial in Fair View. MRS. JENNIE G. MOREHEAD

Blacksburg, April 5 (Special) - Mrs. Jennie GIBBS MOREHEAD died yesterday on her 74th birthday anniversary at her home near here. Services will be held at Lusters Gate church Saturday at 2 p.m., with interment in west View cemetery.(I know this is out of alphabetical order - it was on the same page as S.Jackson Oliver, below. S. JACKSON OLIVER

Newport, April 5 (Special) - S. Jackson OLIVER, 78, widely-known Craig county farmer, died this morning at his home near Maywood. Funeral services will be held at the home Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. with burial in Ross cemetery.Surviving are two sons, Minor OLIVER, Newport, and Dr. Oren OLIVER, Nashville, Tenn. DIES IN ARIZONA

PRIVATE W. T. OLIVER

Word has been received in Blacksburg of the death Thursday in a Phoenix, Arizona, hospital of Private Welford T. OLIVER, with the army air corps stationed at Luke Field. Son of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. OLIVER, of Blacksburg and Charlottesville, Private OLIVER attended Blacksburg high school. He was 26 years old and for the pasy several years had been working in Richmond. Well known known (written that way in the paper) in the Blacksburg section, he enlisted in the air corps at Richmond last July and had not been home since that time. He is also survived by a half-brother, Byron OLIVER, of Charlottesville, and a half-sister, Mrs. Dennis BRADSHAW, of Norfolk. Cause of his death was given as blood disease. He had long been a member of the Blacksburg Lutheran church. Funeral arrangements have not been made. (This is accompanied by a picture of him in uniform. MRS. LUCILLE C. OVERSTREET

Mrs. Lucille CRAIG OVERSTREET, formerly of Roanoke, died Wednesday in a Danville hospital. Mrs. OVERSTREET moved to Danville from Roanoke about six months ago. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church and a former staff nurse for the Red Cross regional blood center. Surviving are her husband, Lawrence W. OVERSTREET, her mother, Mrs. Melvina C. CRAIG, Blacksburg; three sisters, Mrs. William P. DAVIS and Mrs. E. Herbert RYAN, both of Blacksburg, and Mrs. Thomas PATSEL, Roanoke. Funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Lotz, conducted by the Rev. J. E. STOCKMAN. Burial will be in Evergreen. Pallbearers will be J. W. CLINGENPEEL, R. N. SIBOLD, O.P. SCHILLING, V. A. ANGELL, GEORGE P. HASH AND HARRY G. ANDERSON.
