Not all players need to be re-signed at the end of the year. A good way to manage your franchise efficiently is to sign valuable players, like hot rookies, to long-term contracts. It could be more beneficial to give a player more money and retain him for seven years than to offer him less money for a shorter time. Signing veteran players to shorter contracts could be wise; they generally retire in their late thirties, and their ratings decline as they age.

Releasing players can benefit a coach when trying to get a little more room under the salary cap. Try to release players in positions that have many players; it makes no sense to keep a highly paid back-up who never plays. Try to find cheaper alternatives to fill the holes in your roster.

Trading Players/Proposed Trades

An excellent way to improve your team is to trade for players or draft picks that can fill your team's needs and make an impact. Don’t be afraid to trade away aging stars to develop your team for the future. A player who has one good year left might not be as vital as a young rookie with great potential. Always examine the proposed trades on the table. A proposed trade can often benefit your team. Other teams make offers in response to what your team needs or to what your team has in surplus. One way to rebuild your team is to make numerous trades for draft picks. Rebuilding through the draft can make your team more powerful.

NFL Draft

Before the draft takes place, look at the players available. A good coach needs to evaluate which rookies have the potential to be star players for years to come. Rookies have the potential to increase their overall rating after just a few years. A coach has many different options in the draft. You can draft the best player available or concentrate on what your team needs right now. One of the most important keys to having a dominant team is drafting and grooming a young quarterback. Every dynasty needs a great leader to build around.

Draft Pick Signing

Keeping your new draft picks around for many years is essential to reaping their benefits in the future. Base their salaries on their potential, and don’t be afraid to commit to long-term contracts. They'll be reluctant to sign on for the long-term unless you up the ante on their salary.

Free Agent Signing

Free agent signing could very well be the most crucial aspect of any franchise's front office decisions. Bringing in top free agents can make an immediate impact on your team's performance. Big name free agents cost a lot of money, so keep in mind salary cap limitations and how signing those free agents will affect your team's long-term performance. Sometimes signing two lesser-quality players for the same amount of money rather than forking out big money for one player.

Reorder Roster

Reorder the roster before the beginning of each new season. This ensures that the player with the highest overall rating in each position starts each game. However, your rookie players need to see some action, so throughout the season, find some junk time to get them in the game so their overall ratings have a chance to improve.
