
The Division of Students Affairs is committed to providing services and programs to enhance the learning environment and the living experiences of students as they matriculate at the University. The Vice President for Student Affairs and staff are responsible for administering and coordinating a variety of extracurricular activities specifically designed to:The units comprising the Division of Student Affairs interface and collaborate with units throughout the University to prepare students for productive, responsible living.
- assist students in developing traits that foster academic achievement;
- inform students of and promote respect for policies, procedures, and traditions of the University;
- provide students with projects and challenges that raise consciousness in social, cultural and civic areas; and,
- assist students in promoting civility, good judgment and positive peer interaction in the residence centers.

The professionally prepared counseling staff at the "Counseling Center" assist students who experience academic, personal, social, health, substance abuse, emotional crisis, and financial management problems. In addition, the staff provides other services, e.g. career awareness and development; AIDS awareness and prevention; development of interpersonal skills; positive self-concepts, diagnostic evaluations, individual or group personality questionnaire; and "listening ears" with "helping hands".Individual and group counseling sessions are conducted. Counselors facilitate the student's decision-making processing. Appointments and referrals are immediately interactive as needed. ALL SESSIONS ARE CONFIDENTIAL.

Grambling State University has nineteen (19) residence centers, eleven (11) female, seven (7) male, and one graduate facility.In accordance with resolutions that affect housing policy at Grambling State University adopted November 14, 1969 by the Louisiana Board of Trustees for State Colleges and Universities ALL UNMARRIED FULL-TIME UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS, REGARDLESS OF AGE OR WHETHER OR NOT EMANCIPATED, EXCEPT THOSE LIVING WITH PARENTS, ARE REQUIRED TO LIVE IN ON-CAMPUS RESIDENCE HALLS AS LONG AS SPACE IS AVAILABLE.
The Grambling State University Tiger Marching Band, world renowned for its fast and intricate dance steps, has traveled throughout the United States and to other countries (i.e. Africa, Japan, and the South Pacific). The Tiger Marching Band's universal appeal draws students university-wide; both majors and non-majors participate..The Orchesis Dance Troupe participates with the Tiger Marching Band on many occasions. Additionally, the troupe has competed and performed independently at the local, state and national levels. Membership is open to the general student body.

The University augments its program of formal education through many services and organizations. Student Life program offerings enhance the total development of the Grambling student by coordinating and promoting educational, recreational, social, cultural, and entertainment activities that create opportunities for extra-curricular interaction and professional growth. The Dean of Student Life with a competent cadre of staff: administrators, counselors, faculty mentors, medical, and clerical personnel, facilitate operations and services of: student activities (including Freshman Orientation and Student Union Programming), health and counseling services, guidance and testing, career development and placement, student judicial programs, religious life, and pastoral services. Concern for the students' welfare provides that conducive environment, yielding ultimate individual achievements in community and global responsibility. Each student is a part of the University. University Relations
University Relations assists in the development and maintenance of positive relationships with the public. The unit includes Alumni Affairs, The Bayou Classic, Athletics, Office of Development, media services, public relations, and publications.

Grambling State University Police Department is the university's enforcement agent. The Police Department provides many service-oriented functions to the university community consisting of over 7,500 students, faculty and staff. The department provides police and security services 24 hours a day, seven days a week to all university students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The university's rules and regulations, as well as all state and federal statutes and all local laws, are enforced by the University Police Department. All Grambling State University officers are commissioned Louisiana Police Officers with all the authority and responsibility of any police officer in the state of Louisiana. They are empowered to make arrests in the matters concerning felonies and misdemeanors. The enforcement authroity is Act 269 of the 1974 Legislature, section 1805 of Title 17 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950. University Police officers are responsible for a full range of public safety services, including crime reports, investigations, medical and fire emergencies, traffic accidents, parking violations, enforcement of laws regulating consumption of alcoholic beverages, the use of controlled dangerous substance, weapons and all other incidents requiring police assistance.
University Police compile information, prepare reports and submit report data to state reporting agencies. The Department shares information on arrests and serious crimes with the Sheriff's Department. Computer checks of warrants for wanted persons can be conducted through computer link up with the Louisiana Department of Public Safety. The terminal provides access to the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), which access the computer files of all criminal justice system within the 50 states, the District of Columbia, The Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, The Virgin Islands and Canada.
University Police Patrol offers assistance to motorists. Service includes assistance to stalled vehicles and to unlock vehicles upon request. Potential criminal activity and other emergencies on University property can be reported directly by any student, faculty, staff or visitor.
