TIGER ANNUAL FUND DRIVE
"Giving--If not You--Then Who?"
In a move designed to show his commitment to education and Grambling State University, Louisiana Businessman Ben Johnson, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Winnfield Funeral Homes and Insurance Company, recently presented a $200,000 check to the university. The donation is the second largest ever made to GSU by an individual. During the 1980's, boxer Sugar Ray Leonard donated $250,000. The money will be set aside for endowments, scholarships and alumni projects and will also help establish a cooperative program between the university and the Ben Johnson Alternative School in Natchitoches. Ivory Smith, a GSU alumnus and lifelong friend of Johnson, played a key role in helping the university receive the donation. Phillip Morris USA recently gave Grambling State University $10,000 to fund 20 scholarships in the management and marketing areas. Scholarship selection will be based on academic performance, leadership, interpersonal and communication skills and on various supporting evidence.

If not you, then who?
The Office of Development and Dr. Steve Favors have set $500,000 as the Tiger Annual Fund goal. Pledges of $41,000 were received through the Tom Joyner Morning Show "Dollars for Scholars" fundraiser. The Office of Development has received $39,211 of the $41,000 pledged during the month of June 1998.
