When students become ill in the dormitory and are unable to report to the Health Center, the following procedure will expedite getting medical attention:
Medication
Student Insurance
Medical Excuses
A doctor is at the Foster-Johnson Health Center three (3) time per weeks during various hours. Students should contact health center personnel for appointments when consultation is desired.
Foster-Johnson Health Center is an ambulatory, out-patient medical facility located on the south side of the campus between University Police and the Intramural Center. Students are afforded health care by refering physicians and a team of professional nurses. The nursing staff is available for medical advice, counseling regarding health problems, assessment, and treatment of student maladies.
Students are encouraged to submit a Medical History to the Health Center. In the event of a medical emergency or life-threatening situation and in consultation with a physician, a Medical Consent form granting permission, from parent/legal guardian, to authorize medical treatment is needed. Proof of Immunization is mandated. Students that do not meet the Louisiana immunization requirement are placed on immunization hold and will not be allowed to register or select classes until they have submitted documentation of immunization or a physician documented proof of immunity.
A physician is on campus two (2) hours per day, five (5) days per week. Students desiring consultation should check with nursing personnel for an appointment. Illnesses and emergencies that cannot be treated at the Health Center are referred for private care.
Non-prescription medications are kept in stock at the Health Center and are issued at no cost to the student. However, when prescriptions are given by the physician, the student is responsible for purchase.
All full time students enrolled at the University are covered by a limited student insurance program. Each student should read the brochure (available at the Health Center, Student Government Association Office, Office of Student Affairs). In the event there are questions regarding the provisions of the coverage, health center personnel may be consulted for clarification. Those students requiring private medical consultation with a physician are responsible for the cost at the time of service. Student insurance claims may be filed by the student for reimbursement.
Students will be issued excused absence from class when:
