The Pelican Ceremony for Mistress Elspeth Caerwent
Those who know me will be aware that I seem to take very little seriously. However, one thing I take very seriously is being a member of the Order of the Pelican, and the role of all Orders of the Peerage in being examples to all who pass time in the SCA. To this end, it was my privilege to accompany His Majesty, Fabian one late morn to represent the Pelican Council when HIs Majesty asked Elspeth if she would consent to be welcomed into the Order. Even as I type these words, I feel the tears well in my eyes. Elevation to the peerage is a solemn, joyous and momentous event, and it was wonderful to invite a friend like Elspeth to be recognised for what she, in the eyes of her peers and those who know her, undoubtedly is, a peer of the Kingdom of the West.
