Plot -
The X-Men, Carol Danvers, and Lilandra are trapped on a Shi'ar starship and are under pursuit from the alien creatures known as the Brood. Lilandra tries to pilot the ship to safety, but she can not do it alone. Storm tries to summon lightning to fight, but she finds that will she is eager to pain the Brood, she can not bring herself to kill them. Before long, their small ship is hit, and Nightcrawler is going make a manual repair. But he is injured, and Kitty Pryde, the X-Men's youngest member, is trying instead. Kitty makes it out to the airwalk, but inside, Carol Danvers, the former Ms. Marvel, is suddenly feeling lightheaded. She believes it comes from whatever the Brood did to her, and then suddenly, she transform, and with a powerful blast, she destroys all the ships around them. Kitty repairs the warp drive, and the ship is off. Back on Earth, at the X-Men's mansion, Professor X and Illyana Rasptuin, Colossus's younger sister, sit down to talk. Illyana hints that she too is mutant, but because of her mysterious time in the hellish Limbo, Professor X can not penetrate her mind. In space, Kitty finds herself saved by Carol Danvers, who now appears shining like a star. Carol refuels the ship's cores with her star energy, and she proclaims that she is no longer Carol Danvers, but Binary. Kitty's wound, which might have been fatal, suddenly heals, while Storm, who has never been sick in her life, suddenly falls ill. Storm has an emotional outburst, after sensing another life within her. She storms out in on of the ship's escape pods. Wolverine then tells the X-Men the truth: while they were on the Brood's homeworld, they were each injected with a Brood egg. When hatched, the egg will consume their host, taking their powers for their own. In anger, Binary rushes out, leaving a whole in the side of the ship.
