THE STORY OF THE FIVE ELEMENTS
There were, there are and there always will be the two opposing extremes of what we call morality or ethics. "No ethics", "strictly nothing ethical", one of the extremes, mean "EVIL". "All the respected rules of ethics gathered at one place and at the same time, without anything unethical" mean "GOOD". The strange thing is that nor one or the other extreme is possible. The both cases need each other though they strictly exclude anything concerning their opponent. But without the Good, we wouldn�t be able to tell what is actually evil...
But anyway, in the Fifth Element movie, there are both extremes. The total evil which decides to destroy all life and thus everything which might be good. And against it, its constant opponent, the five elements, the only thing that can stop the Evil's spread. These elements when they are gathered around a fifth: The Supreme Being, ultimate warrior, created to protect life, will produce what the ancients called the light of creation, the light of total goodness which is the only thing that can defeat EVIL.
And so, as the script says, the Fifth Element is actually some kind of being, on the contrary to its other four brothers. And it is, for a lack of a better word, perfect. It has a genetic memory and a limitless knowledge. It is unimaginably better than anything you have ever seen. And it is, though even the priests of the elements didn't think so, a woman. Leeloo Minai Lekarariba-Laminai-Tchai Ekbat De Sebat to be precise. But she allows others to call her Leeloo. I don't know if she is all that perfect and all, but she's not all that bad as well. After all, Jovovich is not an ugly duckie. She's just an unusual girl.
THE STORY OF KORBEN DALLAS
Well, he's one of those guys Bruce Willis always plays, full of melancholy and with a lot of sarcastic humour. And he has a career of a guy who saved the President. (Oh wait... no, that was the Last Boy Scout movie...) He has a career of a warplane pilot and a soldier who can handle anything from a .5 calibre to an intergalactic war.
And that's why he is taken from his life of a taxi driver back to a career of a soldier. Because of three reasons - one: As part of The Elite Special Forces Unit of the Federated Army he is an expert in the use of all weapons and spacecraft needed for this mission. Two: Of all the members of his unit he was the most highly decorated. Three: He's the only one left alive... And, moreover, he won a trip to a Fhloston Paradise, mostly thanks to the Federated Army which rigged the contest. From my angle, this was the best role Bruce Willis had. Never liked him better than in this one.
AND WHY THIS ALL ACTUALLY BEGAN?
Well, after a few thousand years of happy evolution of life on the Earth, the Total Evil decided that this is just too much. Entering this dimension as a large and especially evil planet, it bolted directly for Earth. And because it wasn't just an ordinary evil, it paid for a head of a syndicate of crime, Jean-Baptiste Emmanuel Zorg to have the four elements found, while the fifth was to be destroyed.
And this is an impulse for the story to begin. I won't tell you how this movie ends, though everyone knows it'll be a happy-end, because you wouldn't to see it or at least read the movie scripts and see the photos at this page (actually, the pictures aren't originally from this page but you can see it and download it and and and...).
A MUST-SEE
All your attention is attracted by the movie, by the action and the unusual views of the world of the 24th century (March, 2359). You know almost everything about the characters, about the story and why does everything on the screen work as it works. Only a few secrets are still hidden behind the wall of time which stands between you and the end of the movie. And still you can't look at anything else but the screen, you can't listen to anything else but the sound of the action and all your other senses are paralyzed - you are sucked up by the aggressive fast-running story. As Terminator 2 keeps you off the most important detail of the story for quite a time (and that is what I appreciate on that film), here you are told everything from the very beginning. Luckily, it is put in a way that doesn't work against the quality of the movie. Although you know quite much, you can still have fun (and I had, too).
A row of misunderstandings of a fine French style, action sequences of the top action movies and the humour of the both things mixed together... All these things are big advantages of this unusual movie, which is so good because it is unusual.
