For all of you who are searching for improvements to your radio systems - I think that an "Out of Range Emergency Override Option", a "Anti-Doubling Option", and a "Emergency Channel Access Option" should be included in every new public safety radio. (12Sept00) Please check the archives at project25 or fireradio or sonofrcma @ egroups.com for more info.

Just to be perfectly clear - the Internet is a magical place - if you just look at governmental or commercial websites you would probably be convinced that nothing ever goes wrong in the world. On the other hand, if you look at the media websites, you would get the overwhelming idea that EVERYTHING is wrong with the world. This website tries to take the middle road - showing some of the items that go wrong or that can be improved - and also showing the tremendous amount of effort that is required to attain a effective public safety communication system. Peter Szerlag - 1 September 2000
Also - I do not intend to remove this website from the Internet for any reason. If this site dissappears, it will be due to hacking or to a major Geocities failure. Peter Szerlag - 12 September 2000

How to Use the Internet to Find Public Safety Information
1. First - run a search at www.northernlight.com - or try www.google.com (which now has newsgroup archives back to 1995 which they bought from dejanews.com - and has pdf documents - March 2001)
2. If that does not work, try running a search at www.northernlight.com, www.metacrawler.com, www.google.com, www.dogpile.com, www.yahoo.com, or www.altavista.com, or any other search engine.
3. If you still are searching - try www.firehouse.com or www.911dispatch.com or www.fire-ems.net or www.flashnet.com/~jturner or the Houston FD Union site (which has a list of all online FD unions)
4. Next step - hunt through my website to see if you can find something
5. Else - http://1stheadlines.com, www.excite.com, or www.worldnews.com can be searched for newspaper articles on fire, wildfire, 911, police, dispatch, etc - www.microzoo.com [now is www.usnpl.com - April 2002] and www.newspapers.com have lists of newspapers and TV stations by geographic areas - www.deja.com and www.talkway.com and ?www.remarque.com allows you to search some newsgroups - another option is to post a question to alt.firefighters or alt.med.ems or alt.law-enforcement - the archives for the various Email lists at www.egroups.com contain large amounts of information
www.newsdirectory.com - good links to newspapers worldwide - 01 Dec 00
Please see www.fordyce.org/scanning/links1.html for a detailed list of scanner websites broken down by State and Country
Also see Yahoo Scanner Webring - 395 sites - searchable - 16Dec00
For trunked radio system info - see Warren Whitby's site and Lindsey Blanton's site [www.trunkedradio.net - April 2002] (sorry if I misspelled anyones name) - maybe also www.trunktracker.com (?older info)
