Our events are open to all alumni, family, and friends.   We'd like to involve as many of you as possible.   What would you like to see on this list?

E-mail notifications go out in advance of all events.   If you have an e-mail address, please join our mailing list.   You do not need to be a Queen's grad to sign up, but we ask that you indicate your class/school affiliation.

Volunteer Day   On Saturday, November 21st from 10am to 1pm, we'll bring together a group of alumni to volunteer some time for the Prison Book Program in Quincy.  With news of their work spread only by word of mouth among inmates, the Prison Book Program fills hundreds of specific requests per month from prisoners across the country for books, which they ship to them free of charge from their donated collection.  Volunteers will assist with selecting books to meet prisoners' requests, sorting donated books, or packing shipments for mailing.  No experience is required, and young adults are welcome as well.

Queen's grads may find the Prison Book Program uniquely interesting:  fulfilling prisoners' requests can appeal both to your well-read Queen's-educated mind, as well as to your curiosity about what people on the other side of prison walls are interested in, invisibly surrounded as we all were with prisons for our time in Kingston.

The Prison Book Program operates out of the basement of the United First Parish Church in the center of Quincy.  Come to help with the books, and you'll also get to tour the church and see the resting place of its most famous parishioners, Presidents John and John Quincy Adams and their wives.

The church sits by itself in the middle of a quasi-rotary in the center of Quincy, technically 1306 Hancock St.  If you're looking at the front of the church, the entrance to the Prison Book Program is a signed basement door that is around the right rear corner of the building, along Temple St and facing the "Quincy Market" convenience store.  Knock to be let in.

To get there, take the Red Line to Quincy Center.  Exit to Hancock St and you should see the church across the street.  If you drive, you will want to find off-street parking to avoid meter-feeding interruptions.  There is a large garage in the Presidents' Place Galleria complex just north of the church.  You should see signs on Hancock St directing you up Saville Ave to the garage entrance.  Directions into Quincy are on the Prison Book Program's website.

Please RSVP if you are interested in coming so that we know how many people to expect.  Hope you can help!
