Welcome · Upcoming Events · Past Events · Usual Suspects · New in Boston · Leftovers

At the risk of indulging the irritating web habit of linking to pages of links to links, with no actual content in sight, here are some pointers to a few more things of interest to alumni and expatriates. For local information, have a look at the New in Boston page as well.

Hockey   Keep up on the dwindling supply of Canadian-based teams, as well as Boston's own perennial hard luck cases.
Boston Bruins  Calgary Flames  Edmonton Oilers  Montreal Canadiens  Ottawa Senators  Toronto Maple Leafs  Vancouver Canucks

MEC   As sure a giveaway of a Canuck as the flag stitched on a backpack, MEC gear comes pretty cheaply too when you're spending US dollars.
This is not a Queen's endorsement!

Flag Flap   I was complimented in Chicago some years ago on my bold Romanian scarf.   That wasn't what my mom was thinking when she knit it, but as it turns out, was accurate.  Now if there were as many people from Chad around as from Romania, I might have been complimented for flying their colours as well.  (Updated: or Moldavians, or Andorrans.  More here.)  In fact, with the Romanians having removed the Communist government's seal from the centre of their flag, the two are now almost exactly the same, except apparently for the shade of blue.  Chad's claim to the banner may only go back 45 years but it's been reported they are ready to go to the mat for ownership of the tricolour.  Here's hoping Queen's can stay out of it.

A few links on the people with whom we share the tricolour:

Harvard Grad Students   The Harvard Graduate Student Canadian Club is an active group which sponsors many popular events like the Thanksgiving Potluck and a curling bonspiel that are also open to non-students as space permits.   They also maintain a mailing list that is a good source of expat information, especially if you are chronically in need of a ride to Montreal.

Canadian Expat meetup.com   There is a meetup.com group for Canadian expatriates in Boston that organizes periodic pub nights as well as having a nifty website for posting profiles and meeting other Canadians in Boston.

More Canadian groups!
  • The Canadian Women's Club organizes several presentations a year by Canadian authors and notables, as well as a slate of social events (largely held in Weston), and also supports several organizations in Boston and in Canada that focus on women's and girls' development.
  • The Canadian Consulate in Boston does a lot to help promote the countless visits of Canadian cultural ambassadors to New England every year, from children's theater to soloists playing with Boston's best orchestras.  Contact them about their events mailing list.
  • The Canadian Embassy in Washington has also kept up its Connect2Canada website/mailing list effort to provide a clearinghouse for event information for expats as well as an array of Canadian factoids intended for US consumption.
