| Captain America (1990) Cast:Matt Salinger,.Ronny Cox ,Daren McGavin,Melinda Dillion,Ned Beatty Awful adaptation of the great comicbook icon stars Matt Salinger stars as "Captain America" a super soldier who gets thrown in suspended animation only to rewake in time to stop the Red Skull. Somewhat funny due to the hilariously bad costume which makes Salinger look more dorky than heroic. Still it's awful and should'nt be watched ever. The story behind this debacle is that the budget was non-existant because this film had financial backers that pulled out leaving Albert Pyun with no money, which he then tried to raise to make the film. People say a lot of mean stuff about Pyun, but I believe that Pyun is a victim of circumstance on this front. I mean the man's name doesn't exactly inspire confidence or hope among movie goers, but he had a distinct badness (And indeed he has even churned out a decent flick every now and then such as Kickboxer 4, Nemesis and The Sword and The Sorcerer) indeed this movie is made with little life and the movie is a failure because of the budget. The underrated Punisher movie for instance was most likely a victim of budget slashing (As well as a moronic move on Stan Lee's part to restrict the skull) but the action was well staged, directed with verve and indeed is where all the money went. Captain America would've been better with an action approach as the movie would've at least worked as a standard action flick. Pyun can film a decent action sequence, Cyborg as bad as it is, did have good action. In fact in the case of Kickboxer 2 and Bloodmatch, this was its only merit. The action here is putrid, the acting is bland and the movie lacks the necessary component that would make this watchable for genre fans. The Punisher divided its audience, but this one is universally hated because it didn't even have lots of action to save it. As for the movie itself, it's very boring, cheap and lackluster.
