"Yoga, a Sanskrit word meaning union, is a regimin of breath control, stretching and strenghtening exercises, and meditation that is thought to promote mental, physical, and spiritual well-being."
(Harvard Health Letter, 1998)

"One of the oldest health practices, yoga...is the integration of physical, mental, and spiritual energies to promote health and wellness."
(Nursing, 2001)

Nurses, being advocates for their clients well-being, are responsible for keeping up to date with practices that can not only better the health of their clients but can empower them to take charge of their own health care. Yoga has become an increasingly popular form of exercise that is known to focus on the mind and body connection. This focus helps to reduce stress to the mind and body, which in turn, decreases the harmful effects of stress.
