Edit > Rest pose > Assume rest pose

Returning Joints and IK Skeletons to a Rest Pose

Overview

The rest pose and neutral pose are the same by default. The rest pose can be changed by using Edit > Rest pose > Set rest pose. For more information, see page 305.

Each skeleton joint can assume a rest value for its translation, rotation, X, Y, and Z values. You can also return a joint or a regular node back to its neutral pose (that is, having its translation, rotation, X, Y, and Z values set to be zero).

How to Use

1
Create a rest pose using Edit > Rest pose > Set rest pose.
2
Reposition the skeleton as required using Pick > Joint and the necessary Xform tools.

You can also pick an IK handle for all joints on the IK chain to assume a rest pose.

3
Select Edit > Rest pose > Assume rest pose to return the skeleton back to its rest pose.

Rest Pose Options

Select Edit > Rest pose > Assume rest pose - to open the Rest Pose Options window.

Assume

Neutral Pose

Sets node translations and rotations to zero.

Rest Pose

Sets joint translations and rotations to the rest pose.

Hierarchy

None

Assumes a pose for selected joints or nodes only.

Above

Assumes a pose for selected joints and all joints or nodes above them.

Below

Assumes a pose for selected joints or nodes and all joints below them.

Both

Assumes a pose for selected joints and all joints above and below them.

Joints

Used

Assumes rest pose for all joints that have been transformed

All

Assumes rest pose for every joint in the skeleton.

Pose

Rotation

Assumes rest pose for rotation parameters.

Translation

Assumes rest pose for translation parameters.
