"I've flown from one side of this galaxy to the other but I have never seen anything to make me believe there's one all powerful Force controlling everything." These words were spoken as Han was transporting Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker to Alderaan. Since then he has witness the Force in action and he now no longer denies that there is a Force as his wife Leia is force sensitive. His children, brother-in-law, and sister-in-law are Jedi masters. Han is an island in a Jedi family and one can speculate that this is so as he has spent so much time aboard the Millennium Falcon with his co-pilot Chewbacca.
Han is one of the best know heroes of the Rebellion. This would have been even if he had not married Leia and had three children that became Jedi. Yet one would not have predicted greatness from him given his humble beginnings. Historians would have labeled Han a criminal in training if they had observed his childhood.
The fact remains he was a criminal for many years. He was a pickpocket, con artist, and smuggler. He began his career at an early age. When he was very young when he was taken in by a felon named Garris Shrike. Aboard the freighter Trader's Luck he was taught the finer points of thievery from the other children that were onboard the freighter. Even though the freighter orbited Corellia most of the time they did travel to other worlds where Han became a polylinguist. The freighters cook was a female Wookie named Dewlanna and she taught him to understand the Shyriiwook tongue and acted as Han's surrogate mother.
As he grew older Han wanted to escape, but Shrike who was a cruel master would refuse to give up any of his employees. He was on one of his adventures on Corellia when he met his cousin Thranken Sal-Solo, but was not able to learn any hard information on his birth parents. He did learn he was linked to Dalla the Black, who was a criminal who had lived many years earlier, and had proclaimed himself to be "King of "Corellia".
Shrike soon learned Han possessed the instincts to be a pilot and soon taught him to ride a swoop bike. Han won many races bringing in huge cash rewards which went directly to Shrike. He also gained a life long enemy in the form of a bounty hunter named Dengar, who Han had forced Dengar to crash during an illegal swoop race.
When Han reached the age of seventeen he became know to another famous bounty hunter Bobba Fett as he competed in the bare-knuckles All-Human-Free-For-All on Jubilar. Fett was on an assignment for Jabba the Hutt at the time when he witnessed Han's fight from a distance. Han won the contest but was abused by Shrike just the same.
At nineteen Han had enough and was able to escape with the help of Dewlanna, who was killed during his escape. Having witnessed her death Han vowed to help any Wookie he met that was in trouble. He stowed aboard a cargo barged piloted by a droid to answer a ad for a pilot on the spice processing world Ylesia that was controlled by the Hutts. He was hired by the Brsadii Hutts to pilot their spice to other worlds. On Ylesia he fell in love with a beautiful pilgrim Bria Tharen. He soon escaped with Bria in a stolen Hutt yacht, earning a death mark courtesy of the Besadii.
Han and Bria made their way to Coruscant, but their romance was doomed at the start. Bria left him to find her own path. She would see Han again though. It was with a broken heart that he enlisted in the Imperial Navy. For four years he trained at the military academy at Cardia. There he learned the ways of the Navy with famous classmates named Soontir Fel and Mako Spince. after graduating at the top of his class he began his career as a naval officer and TIE pilot.
It was on one mission that Lieutenant Solo first encountered Chewbacca. He was investigating a slaver freighter that had been carrying Wookie slaves when he refused to kill the sole surviving Wookie after being ordered to do so by his superior officer. Shortly afterwards while Han was on Coruscant he saved Chewbacca's life again after he found that Chewbacca was being beaten by a construction overseer. Being the second time he was insubordinate he was drummed out of the Imperial Navy.
Han now found himself with new employment after his Imperial Navy career became ruined. He began to work for the criminal underground on Nar Shaddaa. Chewbacca, who had invoked a life debt to Han accompanied him. They began to smuggle spice for the Desilijc Clan, which included Jabba the Hutt. At first he flew company ships but in time he was able to purchase his first ship which he named Bria. He made friends with Lando Calrissian and he fell in love with his ship the Millennium Falcon. During a high stake sabacc tournament on Bespin that he won the ship from Lando.
Han then went to the Corporate Sector and the Tion Hegemony with his new ship. When they returned Han found himself once again in the company of Bria. Bria was now a leader in the Rebel Alliance. Together they raided the spice factories on Ylesia's. Bria double crossed him by seizing all the spice for the Rebels. Once again she left Han brokenhearted. This led to Han dumping a load of Spice he was carrying for Jabba the Hutt while he was doing a Kessel run. He was boarded by the Imperial Navy. This made Jabba very mad and Jabba placed a bounty on Han's head.
Han was on Tatooine that fateful day when Obi-Wan and Luke appeared in the cantina. He took them on as the money they were going to pay him was enough and more to pay Jabba off. Now a Rodian named Greedo tried to get the bounty on Han but was killed by Han. Han took Ob-Wan, Luke, R2D2 and C3P0 to Alderaan only to find that it was destroyed. The Falcon was captured by the Death Star and after subduing the hanger control room they discovered that Princess Leia was onboard and scheduled to be terminated. Luke devised a plan and convinced Han and Chewie to go along. They made their way down to the detention block and after having to escape down a garbage chute and nearly getting crushed and shot they escaped minus Obi-Wan who sacrificed himself after he shut the tractor beam down at the hands of Darth Vader. They made there way to Yavin 4 where Han got his reward but he had a change of heart and helped Luke by shooting the TIE fighters that pursued Luke from him. His career in the Rebel Alliance had begun.
On more than one occasion he tried to break away to pay Jabba back, but he always returned to the Alliance and the princess. It was after the Battle of Hoth that he realized he was in love with Leia. After escaping the Imperials in an asteroid belt and by hitching a ride on a star destroyer's bridge he made his way to Bespin where Lando was now the administrator. Han, Leia and Chewie were captured by Darth Vader. Han was given over to Bobba Fett after he was frozen in carbonite. He hung on the wall of Jabba's palace till Leia, Lando, Chewbacca, and Luke were able to rescue him.
Now back with the rebellion he was promoted to general and elected to lead a group to destroy the shield generator on the forest moon of Endor. Han along with Leia, Chewbacca, and Luke led a strike force to destroy the Second Death Star's shield generator on Endor. Han, Luke, and Chewbacca were captured by the Ewoks and were reunited with Leia who was separated from the company. Han and company, with the help destroy the shield generator. As the Death Star explodes he proclaims his love for Leia again. Over the next few months Han helped thwart invasions from the Unknown regions by the Ssi-ruuk, as well as the Nagai and the Tofs.
Despite Han holding the rank of General he rarely commanded soldiers. His romance with Leia stopped and started several times over the same period.
Han found himself gone for five months during the New Republic's effort to unseat Warlord Zsinj. He was busy commanding a naval task force that destroyed much of Zsinj's fleet. When her returned he found that Leia was discussing a political marriage with Prince Isolder of the Hapes that would unite their two powers. In a fit of jealousy, Han kidnaps Leia and takes her to the wilderness of Dathomir. There they rediscover their love and when Han takes Leia back to Coruscant they get married.
It was during the time that Grand Admiral Thrawn appeared on the scene and began a war with the new Republic that the Solo twins were born. Then approximately one and a half years later their third child was born on Nespis VIII during the time when the New Republic was force to flee Coruscant as the clone of the Emperor appeared.
Coruscant was eventually recaptured and life for the Solo's became some what normal again. Han was curious to see his old smuggler's haunts and agreed to a diplomatic mission to Kessel. Instead of being greeted warmly the very vengeful warden imprisoned Han and Chewie in the Spice mines. They eventually were able to steal a ship and escape by flying into the Maw's black hole cluster. He found a secret imperial base commanded by Admiral Daala. Han unwittingly unleashed Daala's wrath on the New Republic. It would take a year before Admiral Daala and foiling the Besandii Hutt's Darksaber scheme.
The next 5 years in Han's life were very hard on him. First Leia was kidnapped by a megalomaniacal politician from Nam Chorios then later his three children were kidnapped by the leader of the Empire Reborn movement. Even though the two kidnappings ended in a positive way it left Han shaken to the core at the thought of losing his loved ones. Han also had several brushes himself. On a policing mission against the Yevetha species he was captured and tortured brutally before he was able to escape. Then when Krueller of Almania tried to foment the "new Rebellion", Han was the victim of a political smear campaign that found him painted as the instigator in a terrorist bombing plot. Finally when he took his wife and children on vacation to the world of his birth he was caught up in the attempt of the Corellian Insurrection. He was tortured by his cousin Thracken Sal-Solo.
The Hand of Thrawn incident brought a final peace between the New Republic and the Empire. Han was able to finally settle down. He got the urge to wander from time to time but resisted it. He participated in the wedding of Luke and Mara Jade and proudly watched his children grow up into young adults and Jedi Knights.
When he reached the age of 54, the Yuuzhan Vong invaded the galaxy. Han didn't realize an invasion had taken place when he was making a routine delivery to Sernpidal for Lando Calrissian. The moon of Sernpidal lost its orbit and as Chewbacca was saving young Anakin Solo the moon crashed into the planet and Chewbacca was killed. In his grief he blamed Anakin for his best friends death. He blamed Anakin for taking the Falcon out of harms way to early. In truth Anakin quick actions saved everybody onboard but the loss of Han's best friend stung Han hard. Han in truth would have rather died at Sernpidal that live with the aftermath.
Han, who was lost in grief hit rock bottom. He returned to his old devil may care smugglers life. He abandon Leia and his children and battled the Yuuzhan Vong on his own terms which was a blaster at his side and the Falcon under his feet. He had a itinerant Ryn named Droma who helped him overcome his grief and personal war. Droma filled the copilot seat temporarily. His cold attitude drove a wedge between him and Leia and the separated. Han would later reconcile with Leia, but in fact aLeia knew Han need space to work through the devistating loss of Hans best freind.
The reunion came just at things were heating up in the war with the Vong. They would need each others strength to survive what lay ahead. A year after the planet Duro was lost Han and Leia helped create a "Great River", a safe route designed to enable the Jedi to travel safely uand undetected after the Yuuzhan Vong declared war on them. With the New Republic losing the war against the Vong the Solo's reluctantly gave their permission to allow their three children to lead a Jedi strike force against a Vong warship located in the Myrkr system.
Leia, through the force, sensed the death of her third child Anakin. The Solo's were devistated and if they were not back together Han would have been lost forever in his grief.
Now having lost two important people in his life he became closer to his family and was less reckless as he grows older. He will never forget what the Yuuzhan Vong have cost him and he played an important role in helping conquering the Vong. Han now finds himself along with Luke prisoner of the Nest as the Dark Nest crisis unfolds.
