This proud planet was the home to the Imperial Military Academy. All the new recruit's were passed through and indoctrinated into the Empires service. They were toughened up through the planets higher than standard gravity. Future stormtroopers treks across burning deserts, slogged through dense rainforests, trained on heaving seas, and endured frostbite at the polar ice caps. Life forms on the planet included the famed  "combat arachnoids". These creatures were so renowned for their prowess that Jabba the Hutt  purchased several of them to battle his pet rancor.

Admiral Daala was trained at the academy on Carida, despite the well-known prejudices against women of the Emperor. She excelled in the hostile environment, developing ingenious  battle strategies under a false computer  identity. Grand Moff Tarkin visited Carida to meet this person and he promoted her to Admiral and put her in charge of the top-secret Maw installation near Kessel.

As the Empire spiraled towards disaster, Carida remained  one of the stubborn strongholds of Imperial might. Development continued on the MT-AT spider walkers, but the planet's lack of capitol ships left the planet somewhat isolated.

Seven Years after Endor, Ambassador Furgan made a diplomatic mission to Coruscant. There he proclaimed that his planet was still remained loyal to the Empire and e even tried to poison Mon Motha, the New Republic's chief of state.

Soon afterward the renegade Jedi Kyp Durron stole the Sun Cruiser superweapon and flew to the Caridan system. There he wanted to rescue his brother who years before was forcibly inducted into the stormtrooper program. Kyp issued an ultimatum to the Caridans. He stated if they did not turn over information pertaining to his brother Zeth's fate, he would  fire a resonance torpedo into their sun.

They stalled for time by uploading information that Zeth had been frozen to death on routine maneuvers. Meanwhile they had dispatched 60 TIE fighters  to destroy Kyp.

This put Kyp in a rage at their ruse and he fired a torpedo into the sun. As the weapon buried itself deep into the sun's core he informed the planet they had two hours to evacuate the planet.

Ambassador Furgan managed to escape  with a full cargo of MT-AT's, but there was to few ships to save everyone. Finally a panicked Caridan controller told Kyp that Zeth was alive and on the planet. Knowing he could not reverse the chain reaction Kyp raced to save Zeth but was to late. First the sun exploded killing every living thing on the planet then the planet cracked open like an avrill's egg. Kyp however remained safe in the sun cruiser in which he fled in anguish with the blood of millions on his hands.
