Subject: Tip of the Week 29 expressing quantity (7)

Tip of the Week 29

Last time I finished off by saying:

"It (tuilleadh) may be used with a following noun:
Bidh tuilleadh agam mu dheidhinn seo an ath sheachdain!
I'll have more about this next week!"

I should, of course, have said WITHOUT a following noun! And that is the subject of this week's tip. Used like this tuilleadh may mean 'more':

Dé tuilleadh a tha ri ràdh?
What more is to be said?

(Tuilleadh is tuilleadh tha sinn a' faicinn gu bheil seo ceart.
More and more do we realise that it this is correct.

... or it may mean 'any more'
1) in the sense of quantity (any more of something)

Chan eil tuilleadh ann.
There isn't any more.

2) in the sense of any longer

Chan eil gaol agad orm tuilleadh.
You don't love me any more.

Saothraichidh sinn gus nach bi acras anns an t-saoghal tuilleadh.
We shall labour until there is not (will not be) hunger in the world any more.
