Hogwarts

A History

The Mysterious Presence

The 1945-46 Term witnessed the first time that Hogwarts was under attack by an invisible source. All term long, a dangerous Mysterious Voice would make itself known in a random location by saying an obscure riddle that hinted at an impending catastrophe. Days later, the Voice's prediction would occur, placing students and professors in danger.

The term begins, and the Start of Term Feast is up and raring to go. All the students arrive and everything is fine. A few ghosts (such as Amber Feildcrest, Sankrin Lusodo, and Derkin Groundswallow) have made it clear that they feel strange, but everything else appears normal. That is, until Headmaster Tepes begins his annual welcoming speech. He says everything he pretty much needs to until the lights go black in Great Hall. They don't go out, but their flames turn black, and it is extremely difficult to see. All wands had been banned from using Lumos. Suddenly the booming, evil voice sends out a riddle about how bad things will happen because a law has been broken. The lights will flicker back, but the enchanted ceiling's moon will turn blood red.

A little less than a week later, the strange things begin to happen. First, the lake freezes solid. Some of the professors tried to perform an operation to rescue the giant squid, but it wasn't possible. The lake is frozen very well, and no magic can undo it. The squid was safe, frozen beneath the ice in a dormant state. The next day, during lunch all of the food in the Great Hall was pureed and elevated five feet above the table. It came crashing down splattering anyone near it. Finally, a day or so later, a mysterious fungus began to grow around the school, and all magic spells were misfired in its presence.

After the fungus began to grow, the professors had a Faculty Meeting in the Professor's Lounge. Suspicions were thrown out involving Ex-Headmaster Wallace, the absent Cyrillian Darkmoon, Vesta (since she had just returned and was still distraught about Wallace's death), and even the Slytherins in general. Tempers were flaring as some professors even accused each other. During the meeting, the temperature suddenly decreased to the freezing point. The pipes begin to audibly and visibly bust and all of the professor's drinks become frozen solid.

After another week or so, the other places began to go awry. On the first day of the week, the Gardens became overrun with thorns that scratched at anything that moved. The next day, all of the Corridors were be rearranged (And you thought the maze in the halls was bad before...). On the next day or so, the statue on the grounds came to life and began chasing people around and kicking them out of the gardens.

Finally, the teachers must have another meeting in the lounge. This one was also very heated with lots of yelling and false accusations. Everyone has someone else to blame. This time another warning from the Evil Force came in riddle format and predicted worse things yet to come. Many teachers left in disgust.

For the next week, animals began going bonkers. Any pets of students or teachers became increasingly agitated. The animals of the forest and the ones in the classrooms went crazy. The next day, the rooftop was covered in crows. They wouldn't flee when a human approached and they nipped when a student or teacher kicked them. They also left a nasty mess on the roof that smelled awful. Finally, the next day, a fire creature made their way out of the fireplaces in each of the common rooms shaped in that House's mascot animal. They burned furniture and chased students around.

The next week or so started off with all the breakfast being burned. Then, the South Tower and the Library just disappeared, only to reappear days later. On the next day or so, the floor became enchanted. Anyone who stepped on it was flipped upside down, so the students and teachers had to find some other way to travel around the castle.

Finally, Tabitha Hill (a 6th Year Ravenclaw student) found a rule printed in Hogwarts enormous rulebook. The rule stated that no faculty members on the payroll at Hogwarts may be married. And just the previous term Catalina Merino deVidal and Samanus McStingy had been wed.

Samanus stayed at the school, but he was taken off the payroll, so he could teach as a volunteer for the school. Catalina stepped up to Headmistress the following term. And the Voice disappeared from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

The Valentine's Day Ball

Written by Katrina Ithil

The Valentine's Day Auction, hosted by the Gryffindor house, was a huge success again this year. Ladies could choose from twenty fine specimens, ranging from first years to seventh years as well as professors, babies and ghosts. Whether it was to snuggle with their secret crush or save a friend from spending a night with a less-than friendly bidder, everyone had a wonderful time.

The lowest winning bid was cast by Jewel Baker for fellow Gryffindor Freiceadan Storas. She only owes thirty-five minutes to the kind Nurse Persephane Grant in order to spend a night with the sensitive first year. Despite several bids that were later reduced by Professor Catalina Merino de Vidal, there were some girls willing to pay almost any amount of time to spend time with their sweetheart. The record bid for this year's auction was cast by Sylvia Anevay Roxburgh for a whopping 17 weeks 3 days, or 2928 hours. The lucky guy? None other than the 'stud muffin' prefect himself, Robert McGuire. Professor Rowan Whist will certainly have a slave for quite a long time thanks to this event.

Other bids from the dance are as follows:

Freiceadan Storas (Gryffindor 1st Year) - 35 Minutes
Prof. Adrian Desudro (Beginner COMC Professor) - 1 Hour
Derkin Groundswallow (Hufflepuff Ghost) - 1 Hour

Joseph Torkan (Hufflepuff 3rd Year)- 50 Hours
