About Us

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is a magical school set somewhere in Scotland. Although Hogwarts is based off of the Harry Potter book series, it is not set in the same world. In fact, we like to think of Hoggies as being in a parallel dimension where all those characters of the book series do not exist. There are, of course exceptions to this rule. The four Houses are still named after Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin. And there are even characters such as Newt Scamander and Grindelwald who exist because they are not directly related to Harry Potter himself; however, they are just mentionable. They are unplayable.

We hold Hogwarts at EZBoard. Each character is a member of the board that goes under a sorting process so that they can be screened for writing ability, creativity, and safety reasons. If you would like to join the crew, then please read our rules, and then visit The Sorting Hat. After every term (which lasts approximately three months in real life), we open the sorting hat for those who want to join or be re-sorted. We hope to see you soon!

Q. What is an rpg/rp?
A. RPG stands for role-playing game. A role-playing game is where you create a character and write from that characters perspective. In other words, you pretend you're a character from the books. Your character can have (in fact I encourage this) a different personality than yourself.

Q. How can I join?
We open sorting for one month, then school for 2 to 3. (We open for 3 months, close for a month, open for three months and so on.) Right now Jan-Mar, May-July, Sept-Nov are the months school is open and Apr, Aug, Dec are the months sorting is open. We are limiting it to 70 people per house, 10 per year, 5 girls and 5 boys (you are welcome to play a character of the opposite sex.)

Q. Can I have a character from the books, like Hermione or Ron?
A. No. You have to create your own character. Besides, these characters do not exist at the time of the site.

Q. When does this site take place?
A. This site takes place right after WWII. There is no Voldemort, or Death Eaters, or Potters for that matter.

Q. Can I be an animagus?
A. Remember, animagi are EXTREMELY rare. At this time Im not allowing people to come to Hogwarts as animagi. Once you've been at this site for awhile and have done an extrordinary job at rping etc. then I may grant you an animagi.

Q. How do I advance through the years?
A. With the reconstruction of the site we have all but eliminated promotions. What year your character is will be determined by three factors; your preference, what we have room for, and the quality of your bio. The only way to be promoted is if you want to play the same character the following year. If your character was productive and active, you can play him/her again a year higher.

Q. What are theses houses I keep hearing about?
A. Just like in the books, there are four houses. When you fill out the sorting hat (join form) you choose which you want to be in. The four houses are: Gryffindor- the inhabitants of this house are known for their bravery. RavenClaw- the inhabitants of this house are known for their intelligence and knowledge. Hufflepuff- the inhabitants of this house are known for thier loyalty. Slytherin- the inhabitants of Slytherin are known for their capacity to acheive great things by whatever means.

Site Rules

There aren't many rules, and none are unreasonable so please follow them. Failure to do so will get you banned.

• Giving ANYONE access to your ezboard user account is grounds for being banned from the site. This means the person behind the character is banned and will not be allowed to create any new characters. Period, end of story.

• Dueling will be allowed ON A PRE-APPROVAL BASIS. This means that you MUST obtain permission for the duel prior to the duel beginning AND it must be supervised by one of the Professors.

  The only people allowed to approve a duel are:

  • Headmaster
  • Deputy Headmaster
  • Keeper of the Keys and Grounds
  • Gryffindor House Head
  • Hufflepuff House Head
  • Ravenclaw House Head
  • Slytherin House Head

• Profanity is now limited to the words "hell" and "damn".

• OOC is to be kept to the OOC topics NOT in Roleplay topics.

• No drugs. No alcohol. No suicides - attempted or otherwise. Please remember that while we have relaxed some of the rules, this is still a family-oriented site.

• Don't flame. Flaming is when you post something with the sole purpose of putting someone down or hurting them. I don't want that kind of thing on my site and it will not be tolerated. Your post will be promptly deleted and I will send you a warning. 2 points will also be taken from your house.

• Don't create a superhero character. You aren't the strongest/smartest/whatever wizard of all time. You also did not defeat Voldemort; furthermore, you aren't Voldemort. I encourage creative characters, and of course your character will be very good at some things, but not everything. Make your character balanced; super-hero characters make for boring role-playing.

• Please try and stick to the spirit of the books. You can't just magically morph into an elf or suddenly be teleported into some different world etc. Remember, most of you are students.

• Remember, you control only YOUR character. You cannot post that someone else's character did something or said something without having that player's permission beforehand. This includes impersonating another character!!

• You cannot be anyone from the books, their child, their parent, OR related to them.

• No d00dsp34k or internet speak (U NO WHO U R). Adding L33+ 5P34|< since some don't consider it d00dsp34k.

• No harassing people IC or OOC.

• No posting ICQ, AIM or Email's of Students. If you want to give someone that information, PM it to their private account.

• NO WHINING!!!!!!! If you have a problem or suggestion, we are open to hear it, including suggested solutions to problems.

• Parties, other than in your common room, need to be approved by your house head.

• No Gangs, or Weapons allowed.

• Posting URLs to other sites is not allowed. If you wish to allow access to other sites, you must email the information to the Headmaster Wallace ([email protected]) for review. If he feels the site is inline with what we're about, a link will be added to our Links page.

• You are not allowed to find a dead body or kill/maime another character.

• Only humans allowed (for character race).

• You do not have, nor will you find or create artifacts.

• You cannot "outspell" a professor. The professor's word is ALWAYS Final.

• You are not allowed to have Potter anywhere in your character's name, nor are you related to him in anyway. This school takes place during WWII.

• Most importantly, be creative and have fun.
