Hogwarts

A History

Indoor Forums

The Castle Kitchens - The place to be when you can't sleep.

Hidden deep in the castle, one finds a fairly simple painting. One with a ticklish pear. Upon further examination, one realizes this piece of fruit looks, very, errr, ticklish. With a poke and a nudge, the pear turns into a handle and you decend into the kitchens. The Kitchens are inhabited by dozens upon dozens of house elves, all eager to please!

The Courtyard - Outdoor amphitheater inside the castle walls.

This theater used to be indoors, however the walls shifted and the stage is now located under the open sky. It has added a bit of romance to the shows that take place here. It has become a quiet hang-out for those not wanting to study.

The Dungeons - The castle's basement.

A maze of passageways and dank, dark rooms. There is one place that some of the students have claimed as their own. Beneith one of the drier parts of the castle, there is a grand domed hall. It's dark, stale and and perfect for the grunge, goth, and "alternative" crowd. There are parties here to counterbalance those being held by the "chipper" crowd.

The Entrance Hall and the Corridors - Thank Hufflepest for not having to look at Einar's decorating anymore!

Beyond the huge oak entrance doors is a giant hall. There's a stair ahead and The Great Hall is to the right. This room has become the congregation area before and after classes and meals.

The Great Hall - Come in. Have a bite!

Lit by thousands of floating candles, the four long tables glitter with golden plates and goblets. At the top of the hall is another table for the professors. The main feature of this room is the ceiling which is bewitched to look like the sky outside.

There are 3 meals served here every day. Breakfast is at 6-7am and is a relatively quiet affair since everyone is just getting up. Lunch is at 12-1pm and is much more active. This is also when the owls arrive. Dinner is at 6-7pm. This is when the Headmaster makes any announcements or news updates. Between meals, this room is kept empty except for special events.

The Library - Books, study hall, and so much more.

This is a huge hall filled to the ceiling with books. There are also lines of tables for students to study quietly. There is a section in the back that is roped off. Above the only entrance is a warning, "Restricted Section." No students are allowed inside without a pass.

The Persephane Grant Hospital Wing - This wing is dedicated to Roxy, the muggle behind Persey. You will be always in our thoughts, Roxy.

The entrance to this wing is a waiting room and the Nurse's office. Behind the supply room is a row of hospital beds, each with a privacy curtain. There are only 28 beds, so it's an achievement that we can keep the number of seriously ill and injured to under 10% of the student population!

The Rooftop - The roof on top of the castle main.

In the center of the castle is a huge rooftop where students gather to view the sights of the countryside, the sounds of the wind and soak in the rays of the sun. The activity of the castle below seems far away and surreal up here so many come to get away from the hustle and bustle. This has become a quiet get-away for star gazers as well since it is one of the best spots to set-up a telescope.

The South Tower - The highest tower in the castle.

In the uppermost level of this tower is a grand ballroom. The views are excellent from the balcony that circles the tower and there is always a party going on Friday and Saturday nights. Every weeknight, the school band practices after dinner and many students hang out here and listen instead of studying.

The Staff Room - For professors and other school staff.

A comfortable room with a large fireplace and plenty of high-backed, beautifully upholstered armchairs. A magical urn in one corner pours out tea, coffee, or even the fruit juice of your choice, when you turn the tap and call out the name of your chosen beverage.

Outdoor Forums

The Forbidden Forest - Hello! It's forbidden!

A normal forest is scary enough, but this forest is magical. Even the newest of students can feel the power of it and shy away. Only the very brave or the very stupid ever disobey the clearly posted "Do NOT Enter" signs placed every 50 feet. All of the recent incidents involving loss of life have occured in or near these woods. Trust me. Stay away. Hang somewhere else.

The Fountain - A meeting place in the gardens.

Along the main path is the centerpiece of the garden. A giant half-moon pool against a rock retaining wall holds a colossal statue of a river pixie flying above the wall which is made to look like a cascade of stones. She spouts water from her fingertips an onto the rock wall to create a pleasant waterfall. There is usually at least one rainbow hovering in the mist above the pool.

The Gardens - A place for peaceful contemplations.

There is a wandering cobblestone path through rows of flowers, bushes and trees. Big/small, tall/short, every variety of plant seems to be represented. All along the path are little resting stops with either a bench, a log, a low stone wall, or even just a patch of grass to sit on. Scattered throughout are alcoves beside the path with a wooden fence/stone wall of some kind, a trellis or even a row of hedges taking up the edges of the space. Each little nook contains something special to look at that draws and holds the attention. One might hide a rock garden with tiny alpine flowers growing in the cracks and another might hold a sculpture of a beautiful creature. There are even a couple of meandering streams so that the path comes to a bridge or a few stepping stones. You could spend days exploring every inch of the garden and still not see all it has to offer.

The Hedge Maze - Now don't go and get yourselves lost.

I warned ya, didn't I? Well, since you weren't listening and since it appears nobody else listens... The groundskeeper has installed emergency boxes every few hundred feet in the maze. If... when you are lost, just open the box and a pointer will appear to show you the way to the exit.

The Lake - Come and sit by the blue waters...Don't mind the squid.

Down the lawn and past the boardwalk is a rocky path that leads to the lakeside far below the castle. It's a sheltered beach and it looks nearly welcoming if it wasn't for the fact that every visitor has been warned of the lurker in the lake...

The Old Oak - Set near the edge of the lake, the old oak is a nice place to get a bit of shade on a hot day.

Past Forums

The Boardwalk - The path around the lake.

From one of the side entrances to the castle is a path through the lawn that leads to the boardwalk. There are a few ravines, marshes and more than a few streams that this path crosses so the walkway keeps the feet dry. The boardwalk branches off into the forbidden forest, but that part is old and missing a lot of boards. There is a clear sign above the old path, "Do NOT Enter!" It only goes a few feet in before the boards completely disappear. The wise retrace their steps and go back the other way.

The Clubhouse - Simply put: a barn.

Beyond the gardens and the hedge is the castle's huge barnyard. The centerpiece is the horse stables. Every weekday morning and all weekend, the stables are open to students that would like to exercize a horse. The riding club also meets here on the weekends for leisure rides on the nature trail.

The Corridors - Hallways, secret passages and stairways; this is the maze inside the castle.

It's easy to understand why new students get lost. The stairways change, statues move, walls shift and doorways disappear. Once you get used to the patterns, it's easier to navigate. There have been hardly any cases where a search party was needed...

The Entrance Hall - Welcome!

Beyond the huge oak entrance doors is a giant hall. There's a stair ahead and The Great Hall is to the right. This room has become the congregation area before and after classes and meals.

The Hospital Wing - Still has more flowers than any other part of the castle.

The entrance to this wing is a waiting room and the Nurse's office. Behind the supply room is a row of hospital beds, each with a privacy curtain. There are only 28 beds, so it's an achievement that we can keep the number of seriously ill and injured to under 10% of the student population!

The Statue - Hidden in the gardens.

Surrounded by a wall of brush and covered by a ceiling of trees, this alcove is very cozy. In the middle, is a statue of a proud group of wizards. The stone is well weathered so it's hard to read. It says, "In memory: the first meeting of the Order of the Phoenix."
