keresik tua
The road that leads from Mount Kerinci to Keresik Tua village

Most birders who head to Sumatra visit Kerinci-Seblat National Park (KSNP). It is a large park of about 15,000 sq km. It can be explored from the northen tip near Medan or from the south via Keresik Tua.

The highest freshwater swamp in South East Asia happens to be in KSNP.

If you plan to birdwatch along the famed Mount Kerinci trail in search of endemics, be warned that the trail up is very steep and challenging. Do ensure that you are fairly fit before attempting it.

This trip report is based on a solo 2 week trip to Sumatra in July 2005.

The areas covered were Padang, Keresik Tua, Letter "W" Waterfall, Sungei Sangir, Sungei Penuh and Tapan Road.
