Chess Master Amon Simutowe and Chess Journalist Dr. Shabazz to visit Jamaica
(Im Simutowe on Left Dr. Shabazz on Right in above pic) International Chess Master Amon Simutowe and International Chess Journalist Doctor Daaim Shabazz, will be arriving in Jamaica this Wednesday, July 21, 2004. IM Simutoe, who hails from Zambia, is a 3-time world chess championship candidate who has participated in many international chess tournaments world-wide, including the 2002 Olympiad as Zambia’s no. 1 player, the world Open, in the United States and the British Championships. Dr. Shabazz, a chess Journalist, is the creator and Webmaster of The Chess Drum, which is an international chess Website which promotes the benefits of playing chess and highlights the accomplishments of chess players in the Pan-African regions of the world. The website exceeds 3400 pages and is viewed in over 150 countries worldwide. Both chess players are expected to participate in the Harold Chan Chess Open, which is a yearly Open chess tournament organized by the Jamaica Chess federation and which takes place this Saturday July 24 at the Norman Manley Law School at UWI, and is open to all Chess Players in Jamaica. International Chess Master, Amon Simutowe, will also be giving various chess lectures to local Jamaican chess players during his visit, including a session with the Jamaica chess Olympiad Squad, who are set to represent Jamaica in the International Chess Olympiad, which will be held in Spain, in October 2004.
