Izabella Dorotea Scorupco was born on 4th June 1970 in Bialystok, which is in eastern Poland. In 1978 she moved to Stockholm in Sweden with her mother. She studied drama and music, and at the age 17 she was discovered by the Swedish film director Staffan Hildebrand who cast her in the movie Ingen kan elska som vi (Only We Can Love Like This). The movie is about a girl whose parents are divorced and she wants to go and see her father in the northern Sweden. The film was a great success which made her a star, a teenage idol and a cult teenage. She then became a successful model in Sweden and in Europe, where she made good use of her fluency in languages: Polish, Swedish, English and German.
Izabella is a multi-talented woman. In 1989 Izabella showed her music talent, launching her career as a pop singer with her first single Substitute which went platinum. The single and subsequent album Izabella: IZA went gold and was very popular. She followed with another hit single Shame, Shame (1991), and Love Songs were big hits. Izabella has a beuatiful, optimistic and encouraging voice. Her talent as an actress came was also displayed in music videos. In 1991 Izabella played also the leading role Anneli in a TV mini-series called V Som I Viking)(The Single Mother).
In 1994 she played the lead role in the Swedish film Petri Tears (1995) (St Peter's Tears). Izabella stars as a woman named Carla who lives her life as a man named Carlo in the medieval drama, The film was released in August 1995.
In 1991, in Stockholm she met Mariusz Czerkawski who is a Polish ice-hockey player. In 1994 he moved to America to play in the National Hockey League, and Izabella went with him to live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Mariusz Czerkawski played for the Edmonton Oilers, but when she became pregnant, she moved back to Stockholm in 1997 to have her baby in Sweden. Their daughter Julia was born in September 1997.
In 1995 she played the lead role as Natalja Fjodorovna Simonova in the new Bond movie GoldenEye along side Pierce Bosman as agent 007 James Bond and Famke Janssen as Xenia Onatopp, member of a Russia mafia. Natalya is a human, intelligent and realistic computer programmer who is working on the top secret space weapons programme GoldenEye. She saves London from total destruction, rather than James Bond who is more interested in personal revenge. Her lead role made her world famous and popular as an actress and sexy female.
Instead of accepting attractive roles in Hollywood or starting modeling, she went back to live with Mariusz Czerkawski in Boston, Massachussets. In 1996 in Sweden she played the leading role in the short film Det var en mörk och stormig natt (It Was A Dark And Stormy Night).
In 1996 she and Mariusz Czerkawski married on Christmas Day in Las Vegas. They moved around North America for a time as Czerkawski transferred from one team to another.
In 1997 Izabella started the leading lady in Ogniem I Mieczem (With Fire And Sword), which is the greatest movie ever made in Poland. The film was directed by Polish film director Jerzy Hoffman, It was the third in his trilogy, made over a thirty-year period, of his adaptations of the Polish historical novels With Fire And Sword (1884), The Delute (1886) and Colonel Wolodyjowski (1900) of Henryk Sienkiewicz, who received a Noble Award in Literature for Quo Vadis (1896) in 1905.
Izabella played the leading lady Helena Kurcewiczowna, a Polish noblewoman. The story is set in Poland in the 17th century, where Ukrainian Cossacks are fighting the Polish nobility. She falls in love with a Polish nobleman, Jan Skrzetuski. The Cossack warrior, Ivan Bohun, loves her, but she hates and fears him, while he loves her. Bohun later kills her relatives when he learns that they break the agreement to give her to him in marriage and promised her to Skrzetuski.
The film was a success in 1999, and Izabella signed a contract to model for the Swedish natural cosmetics company Oriflame.
In 1999 Izabella played the leading role in the thriller Dykaren (The Baltic Sea / The Diver / The Salvation). Izabella played impressedly Irena Walde, a Russian mafia courier who is outsmarted by her employers. She is sailing across the Baltic from Poland, when her yacht is sunk by the mafia. She is rescued by a fisherman, who helps her to get her revenge. Dykaren was released in 2000.
Izabella played a leading role in Vertical Limit (2000). The peaks of and around Mount Auckland, New Zealand, were taking the place in the Himalayas. Izabella and the other actors stayed for eight months in New Zealand, and they trained mountain climbing in six weeks before the filming of Vertical Limit. The story is about a team of climbers, including Izabella as Monique Aubertin, who go up the mountain K2, one og the world's greatest mountains, to rescue the leader's sister. But the team is trapped in an icy cave at above the vertical limit of endurance where the climbers cannot survive.
In 2001 Izabella and Mariusz Czerkawski were divorced, and she moved with her daughter Julia to Stockholm, Sweden.
Izabella played the leading lady in Reign Of Fire (2002), which is a fantasy film set in England, where dragons have emerged from the earth and set the world in fire. Iza played Alex, a fighter pilot, who helps a British fireman and an American militia leader to form a resistance against the fiery creatures. It was released in July 2002.
