Malaviya National Institute of Technology is one of the twenty members of the NIT fraternity. Popularly known as MNIT is situated in the Malaviya Nagar area of Jaipur city. The institute is spread over a sprawling campus of 320 acres of land surrounded by beautiful landscapes. The Institute was formerly known as Malaviya Regional Engineering College, a state government funded college under Rajasthan University until the year 2002. In 2002, as a part of a program of  government of India, the college was (along with all other REC's) upgraded to National Institute of Technology (NIT), a Central government funded deemed university and a centre for excellence in technical education and research.

    MNIT was established in the year 1963, with its temporary campus at BITS Pilani, and only two branches- Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Branches. The Institute moved to its current establishment in the year 1965. Currently the Institute has around 2000 students studying in its M.Tech, MBA, MSc, B.Arch and 8 branches of B.Tech courses taught by a faculty strength of around 150 permanent and guest faculties. The Institute admits 450 - 500 students a year which are selected through all India level entrance examinations ( AIEEE for B.Tech / B.Arch and GATE for M.Tech) . Currently it has 8 boys hostels, 1 hostel for M.Tech boys and 2 girls hostels.

      MNIT has been adjusted as the 26th best engineering college of India and 6th best  among NITs. Students from all over India flock to this Institute for  getting an  engineering degree. Even students from foreign nations come to study in this institute. The Institute has been an exemplar  technological institute in whole of Rajasthan as well in India. The Institute shown an excellent track record in the placement process with over 90% of the students getting placed in reputed companies and Government sectors. Some students even get more than one offer. Students have also been consistently performing well in entrance exams like CAT, GATE, GRE etc.

     One of the most important department in MNIT  is the Department of Computer Engineering which came into existence in the year 1994. The department handles two branches - Computer Engineering and Information Technology (Information Technology was opened in the year 2000). The total number of students admitted into these branches per year is 110-120. The department has a very good team of faculty and high tech labs to work in and a seminar hall equipped with audio-visual facilities. The department has been showing 97-100% placement record consistently in the last few years.
