The oldest pier railway in Britain still operating
HYTHE PIER AND ITS PIER RAILWAY Located opposite Southampton this is an example of a pier still serving its original purpose as a passenger boarding point. With not an amusment arcade or candy floss store in sight!

The White horse company run the regular Hythe Ferry service across to town quay from the waterside village of Hythe. The red hulled ferry Great expectations shuttles back and forth on the 12 minute journey.

This 700 yard long pier juts out into Southampton water with a landing pontoon and "Station" at its end. Like many piers it shows signs of a wear and tear but ongoing restoration appear to be giving the structure a chance of continuing serving the village into the future. Giving residents an  alternative to car travel around to Southampton.
The short trip in reverse makes is a suggestion for those wanting a quite drink or meal away from the busy city centre.
