Japan Plan I never had much of a plan for Japan ..just go and see what happens..(maybe make contact with some Green people ..find some volunteer projects of WWOOFing) but cos I had manged to take contact with Terufumi I decided to rush down to Miyazaki first.. From Korea I arrived in Fukuoka on the north of Kyushu Island. travelled around Kyushu Island and then Around Shikoku Island. I took the ferry from Matsuyamma to Yanai on the mainland and travelled back west to take the boat back to Korea Pages My Japan Research 216 Fukuoka and First Impressions Just missed the Yamakaza Festival the town was full of near naked men, buttocks exposed. 217 Miyazaki met up with old friends. 218 Kirishima Hiked across 7 volcano crators 219 More Miyazaki Visted tourist sites. What a great city, beach mountains sun 220 North of Miyazaki - Camping in the heat and Mosquitos, passing through towns of historic old style buildings 221 Shikoku - Aso Rainbow Festival Backtrcking to spent a week helping at a hippy festival. 222 Kickuchi Visiting a volunteer workcamp I had missed. 223 Back in Shikoku Hitching through the mountains, forests and no people, castles, rope bridges and mountains 224 More Shikoku Another old town, staying with the pilgrims, preparation for the typhoon, Gome Biking 225 More Shikoku Another confusing big city, 3 bikes in 4 days. viiting the farm school, the New Zealand Village, more biking, short pilgrimage, Another big ciy 226 Mainland Ferry, burial mounds, more old streets, fireworks on the beach, nothing to see, stranded cos of the typhoon 227 NEXT plan Brain fried after Japan, what to do in Korea ? NEXT - I am confused after Japan..my brain feels a little fried with 1. having to deal with the different culture.. 2. the hot sticky rainy summer ...3. running around trying to save money cos Japan is so expensive... Unfortunately I wasn't as lucky as I expected I didn't really bump into any really great projects or succeed in visiting a Masanobu style natural farm (maybe this sytem is too good to be true) As ever the people were incredibly kind ... there are so many people to thank.. all of the people who gave me rides and helped me ..the people who let me stay at their houses in Usuki, Kikuchi and Takematsu.. To a westerner Japan can seem like an Orwellian nightmare like 1984 or Brave New World, a society of robots in an ultra consumer society. The UK and western countries do seem crazy to me, but Japan a little more. it doesn't seem to have come to terms about the Second World War like Germany has I am trying to make Korea plans. I am not sure what I will do. 1. I will check if there are any festivals or special events in Pusan, and GReen University area ? 2. I will then probably go to Sunchang to say Hello 3. I want to find out about a place called Sanan village. It is a commune of 44 people (in Hwasung, Gyeonggido is 110km away to south from Seoul.) ..maybe I will visit. 4. Sometime I might go to a peace festival at Imjinjak which goes from August to Sept 11th. But I am not sure ...it seems a government tourist thing not like the normal hippy peace festival I am familiar with. Otherwise I have no plans.
