This is a picture of a server. You will learn about servers in this unit, along with the different benefits that they carry when used in large businesses. The main function of a computer server is to provide essential services to other computers, for example if you query something in a search enginge, the search will pass through the internet onto the server that stores all of that information.

This is a screenshot of the task D1 that I completed for Unit 3. The idea of the task was to alter the properties of a server in order to fit the needs of a given set of criteria. I completed the task using the server builder on the Apple website, in which you can specify what you need the server to do. I found this task interesting as I didn't know it was possible to build your own server.

This is a screenshot of the task P3 that was set for Unit 3. We had to show how a logcal computer system worked. It was interesting to explore the different processes that the computer has in order to achieve the final outcome.

What is this unit about?

This unit is about understanding how computer systems work. You learn about the different properties that a computer has, for example essential hardware such as a mouse and a screen and essential software such as Internet Explorer. You also get to learn about how properties differ when different computers are used, for example in one piece of work I compared the difference between a Hewlett Packard computer and an Apple Mac computer.

My review of the unit

I enjoyed the unit as I got to find out that there were difference in the properties of different computers; before completing the unit, I assumed that the properties of an Apple Mac computer and a Hp computer were the same, but I found out that they were not. I also found it interesting to know that you can customise computers and laptops to meet your own personal needs, rather than having to buy a standard computer.
