To do the memory upgrade you need two 8 MB memory chips, twelve 0.10 uF capacitors and one 100K resistor.  All of the components are surface mount devices (SMD).  You will have to look at the memory currently on your ePods to determine the correct memory chips for the upgrade.  The ePods has to be disassembled to check the memory chips.  Disassembly instructions can be found in the Opening the ePods section of this website.

In general, revision 1.1 motherboards will have 70ns memory.  The memory chip number will end in TC70.  Revision 1.2 motherboards usually have 100ns memory.  These memory chips will end in TC1L.  The majority of motherboards follow these rules.  However, there are a few rare cases where the rev 1.1 motherboards have the 100ns memory and the rev 1.2 have the 70ns memory.  Always use the same speed or faster memory than what is on your motherboard.  If you are in doubt, use the faster "Rev 1.1 Memory".  The only thing that it will hurt is your wallet <g>.

To do the DOC recovery modification, you need some fine wire and a small switch.

The parts for the upgrade can be obtained from a variety of sources.  Do-it-yourselfers can scrounge the parts for themselves.  On the left side of this page are links to descriptions of parts that have been proven to work with the ePods.  The pages contain links on where to purchase the parts.  There may be other sources, but these are all that I know of.

I also will be offering kits for those who would rather "just get it over with".   With these kits you will not have to worry about minimum orders or paying $6.00 shipping on a $2.00 part order.   With the kits, you will not have desolder any components from the modules.  I have the proper equipment to do this without damaging the memory.  This is a good option for those who have good soldering skills but little experience with desoldering SMD components.
