Idaho 4-H Horse of the Year Idaho 4-H Horse of the Year Contest
Stone Horse/The Peter Stone Company® continued to give back to the community with their annual Idaho 4-H Horse of the Year program. Begun in 2007, the program gave Idaho 4-Hers an opportunity to nominate their horse for "Idaho Horse of the Year" by writing a 1000 word essay that began, "My Horse has made my Life, and the life of others, better because..." Winners had their horse immortalized in plastic with a portrait model of their best friend by Stone Horse. For more information, check with your County Extension Educator or visit the Idaho 4-H State website. Rules and official entry forms are also available in pdf form here. Deadline to enter is April 20th each year.

American Trail Horse AssnIn late January, the Club hosted a special Horseless Trail Clinic at the Salmon library. 15 adults participated. The idea was to experience various obstacles from a horse's point of view and explore some of the simple unexpected ways in which a rider can influence his horse's behavior. Contestants learned how to build trust and confidence in themselves as well as their horse, discover secrets of riding a winning course, and learn new inexpensive ways to create challenging new obstacles. Katy, Sarah and Aspen did an awesome job of selling raffle tickets, collecting fees and helping with the clinic. The girls managed to raise $70 for their club funds.

Recipient of Youngest Exhibitor at NW Expo Live
Bailey G. was the recipient of the special "Youngest Exhibitor at NorthWest Expo Live" prize this year, sponsored by the Salmon Model Horse 4-H Club.

Hailing from Washington, the precocious 6 yr. old had traveled all the way with her family to Corvallis, Oregon just to participate in the day's horsey activities.

A nice stablemate mare & foal gift set was awarded to her on behalf of the Salmon Model Horse 4-H Club. Our thanks to all the kids who made the effort to come show off their collection. Congrats to Bailey for being the youngest of the lot!

Susan and Ginger
