PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENTS (PSA's)

In 2006 the National 4-H program became a part of the Presidents Volunteer Service and our club is now listed as a certifying organization. For this project, members are encouraged to keep track of their volunteer hours and any youth who volunteers for 50 or more hours a year are eligible for an award from the President. Adults can qualify after 100 hours a year. For more information on this project, visit their website at Presidential Service Awards.

Breyer Fun Day ~ Report on Breyer® Fun Day 2006 hosted by King's and the Salmon Model Horse 4-H Club.

Horseless 4-H Project The Salmon Model Horse 4-H Club (in conjunction with the Custer Co. Hot Wheels Model Horse 4-H Club) took on the task this year of heavily promoting their unique "horseless" model club idea as a Statewide Project, writing letters and articles as well as researching other online model clubs with a 4-H venue, with the hopes of sharing ideas & keeping in touch, perhaps even creating a future network of live and photo show opportunities amongst these groups. It is hoped that in time, this "statewide" project will expand to include other states as well!

Abaco Barb Benefit Show II ~ With one successful show already under her belt, Danielle Keller decided to hold a second model horse photo show to again benefit the wild horses of Abaco on June 3, 2006. Classlist & Rules (MS Word format) were found here along with final Show Results here.

cash for critters Arkwild/Cash 4 Critters
The Salmon club's international service project continued throughout 2006 with the continued collection of used printer ink cartridges & old cell phones to the Cash for Critters® program, which made cash contributions to Arkwild on behalf of the Abaco Barb horses. To help pump up the volume, the girls got the bright idea to put out collection bins all over town for such items in bulk.

the Abaco Barb Arkwild/Abaco Barb Youth Project In addition, the ABYP picked up speed with the signup of several youths all across America who gave speeches or presentations, held fundraising booths or shows, and so forth in order to spread awareness & education on behalf of the Abaco Barbs in the Bahamas. Hundreds of dollars were raised in this fashion, a testament to the power of Youth in this country!

reward Arkwild/Breyer® continued donating a small portion from their sales of their Acapella models to the Arkwild foundation, much to the sincere gratitude of the Salmon Model Horse 4-H Club who first hooked the two groups up together.

DISPLAYS/DEMONSTRATIONS

Susan's jump

This year the group took on a fun theme project which involved choice of making either a jump or trail obstacle with items from the country their ancestors came from.

Laying out the course.

Then the International jumps were grouped and a course laid out by Kelsey and Mary.

You could tell the girls worked hard all summer long planning their jump course!

(Nice job, ladies!)

At the Lemhi Fair in August, the judge was really impressed with everyone's scenes and costumes, as illustrated here with Mary B's Grand Entry rodeo scene.

Kelsey A's unicorn scene earned a special award the following September at the Eastern Idaho State Fair.

(Wow, that's sure pretty!")

PROJECTS/FUNDRAISERS

bookmark fundraiser
Still an ongoing project, club members continued making green & white braided bookmarks with their "Help us Save the Abaco Barbs" logo which continued to be sold at various fundraising events this past year, proceeds of which continued to go to Arkwild.

For more information on the Abaco Barbs, visit their website at www.arkwild.org

certificate Likewise, the club also continued with their collection of pop tops for the Ronald McDonald™ House in Boise, ID all year long. For more information about a Ronald McDonald™ Pop Top Program in your area, visit their website at: www.rmhc.com/kids/poptab_collection/index.html

SMH4HC Club leader Susan Dudasik & her trusty saddle mule Ginger showing 'em how it's done at the Whitewater Schooling Show, March 13th 2006.

Gin won her showmanship & english equitation classes, and so as a result, was high-point english horse!

Salmon Model Horse 4-H Club alumni Mary B. & Hannah B. competing in the bareback Ride-a-Buck class at the same Whitewater Schooling Show, March 13th.

Congrats to Hannah who ended up winning the class.

Congratulations as well to Gabby M. for her Top 5 finish in the Youth Division!

Woohoo Girl!

Equal congrats to club leader Susan & Ginger for the handful of ribbons they picked up at the Whitewater Fun Show and for scoring lots of brand new mule fans with an impressive routine at the Parade of Breeds exhibition! (This was the first time Ginny wore this particular costume and she was a good sport about it!)

Mules CAN do!
