I have a friend who is afraid of Barak Obama. She thought that he is a Muslim and every other thing Fix News threw out. I kept telling her that, while I won't be voting for the guy, he ain't no Muslim and Obama being elected will just bring us more of the crap we've had for years...
Don't believe me? Check out
Corporate America Hearts Obama. SSDB - Same Shit Different Brother.
And if you give me that -
he's better than Bush shit, I'll non-violently punch you in the throat you "low-expectation-having-mother-fucker."

I'm willing to take one for the team. I don't know how else to say it, but I will. Helen Thomas is a million & six years old and we need to keep her alive. If that means she needs a man to take care of her needs, I will step up and do the job - AS AN AMERICAN, GODDAMMIT!
I wish I could embed this, but there is a transcript at the link.
I am a true patriot.
Wait...how about a threesome...me, Helen Thomas & Dana Perino...Oh Lord Have Mercy!

THIS is what I'm talking about! Once again, the fucking Daily Show gets it right!
OK,
this clip is 9 minutes + and there's a short ad on at the beginning, but I haven't been able to find a way to embed it yet. But this is EXACTLY right. THIS is who we want as president...seriously!

OK, let's go through this one more time. All of these things are connected.
Like dominoes, all of these smaller airlines are going out of business. I live on an island in the middle of the f-ing ocean and people here are buggin big time. They're going to have to make rafts like Cubans to get outta here soon. And, gas is approaching $4 a gallon...well, it's been at $4 here for a while, but that's besides the point.
This, and a lot of other things went to hell when Reagan, then every president after started deregulating everything including the kitchen sink. And that includes your boy, Bubba. [Oh, as an aside, are you paying attention to just how much that dude is fucking up his wife's campaign? I'm starting to think that Al Gore wasn't so stupid in 2000...well, at least not for that, anyway.]
Here's the deal...you have the power to deal with this. To make this change. Not to make it perfect, but to make it better. Oh, you're not going to like it, but you have the power. Here are a few suggestions:
- Stop buying shit you don't need!!! Seriously!
- When you really need something, do everything in your power to buy it locally, or at least hand-made. Clothes, food, toys, music, whatever. It cuts down on how much is transported and helps the local economy. Yes, it's more expensive, but you're buying less anyway, right? (see the first one)
- Turn off your TV. Get up. Go do something. Don't go for a drive, dummy. But do something in your own neighborhood. Garden, fix up an empty lot, play ball with the kids in the street, campaign for a local non-incumbent running for office (I had to sneak that in). Do something.
- Bug people around you. There. I said it. Not in that snobbish, South-Park-hybrid-car-episode way. But start talking to your friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, whomever about stuff that you're doing. Seriously. Brag about your fluorecent light bulbs and your solar water heater. Remember how when we all got e-mail accounts you would get 45 jokes a day. Well, start spreading cool e-newsletter tips from Co-op America or Ideal Bite. We need to start making conscious living normal.
- When some idiot you know continues to insist Barak Obama is a Muslim, Hillary doesn't lie or John McCain isn't old, correct them. Send them links, leave them clippings. (By the way, I'm not voting for any of them - I'm going third party)
- You don't HAVE to drive or fly or buy. Seriously. You don't. You need food, clothing, shelter and protection from things that can kill you. Everything else is WANT. Oh sure, you may want some things more than others, like good food, sex...OK, and beer, but it's still want. (notice I said you, not the species) You don't HAVE to have the biggest car, or drive your car that much at all. You don't HAVE to fly. You choose the most convenient way.
You want to bitch about the man, yet you continue to give him big shovels full of your money. The man knows you gotta Jones for stuff...you just gotta take care of it.
I don't remember if I posted this recently, but check out The Story of Stuff. Found the embed code:
Supply and demand, baby. The man thinks you will do anything to get on a plane or drive that car. Show him that you'll do other things instead and he'll kiss YOUR ass for a change.

I'm really tired of this. It's a case of
The Emperor's New Clothes on steroids. I'm sick of people not being able to criticize someone in the military and fawning all over soldiers to show how "patriotic" they are. Even the few people in the media I actually respect do it and it exasperates me for a number of reasons:
*Just because you are/were a soldier doesn't make you better than the rest of us. Like other "jobs" there are bad plumbers, doctors, cops, teachers, etc. I don't have respect for you just because you
decided to become a soldier.
*I don't think patriotism is that great of a thing to begin with - you have citizenship in a country by chance. Luck. (or bad luck as the case may be)
*While I do not think we should totally dismantle our military right now, if our "leaders" haven't been such fuckheads for 200 years then we definitely wouldn't need to spend more than half our budget on the military.
Shall I give you an example? Good.
Read this. Then, read this. There's more, which you can find for yourself, but my summary is - fuck David Petraeus. His word isn't gospel. He's just a stooge for neo-con, war-mongers. I don't care that he has a uniform on. Oliver North had a uniform and we know what a dick he is. Respect is earned and when you REALLY look at what this guy is doing, he hasn't earned MY respect.
Look, what we're doing all over the world is NOT making us safer. It's doing the opposite. There are a lot of parallels to the fall of the Roman Empire here. We're focusing way too much on militarism and the control of other people. We're focusing our economy in all the wrong places. We're disintegrating from within. There has always been an elite in this country and that gap is wider than it's ever been.
Our soldiers have volunteered to be there. I don't see it as noble. I'm sorry. I would rather "fight" for my so-called leaders to do the right things, then a military would be less necessary. It's the same as police. If our "leaders" stopped fucking with poor people we would have less need for police officers.
I said less, not complete.
Oh, so my conclusion is: fuck David Petraeus.

Dear Green Party,
This open letter is to inform you that, starting immediately, I will no longer be working on behalf of the party. I will continue to remain registered as a Green as long as I'm in a state that allows me to. I will also continue to give money (when I have some) to Green candidates. But I will not organize, petition, write letters for, or take positions within the party. I will return to being a leader within the party the day after Ralph Nader dies.
Let me explain.
I am firmly committed to the Green Party's Ten Key Values. I try to uphold such ideals in my daily life. The work I have done on behalf of the party has been rewarding as much as it has been frustrating. I have endured countless self-labeled
progressives use every illogical excuse for not working on behalf of the only party that upholds their ideals. That being said, I have always been willing to do the work. But I cannot expound any more energy for a cause that has Greens who either work to help the party grow or sit on their asses and do nothing, suddenly become enthralled every time Ralph Nader farts.
This is a bizarre cult of personality that I cannot support and will not work against. Ralph Nader is a brilliant man. And like most brilliant people, he comes with some interesting quirks. He does not seem to play well with others. Like puppies who are abused but still come back to their masters, Greens continually go back to Ralph even when he refuses to register green, not endorse the green platform and behaves as if he does not have to follow established procedure to become the green candidate for president. And yet many abandon their party to work for this guy - enabling his behavior.
I am not of the opinion that he shouldn't run for President. But I am of the opinion that if he will not work with the Greens, we should wish him good luck and move on with our own candidate. A way-too-large-number of greens have abandoned their candidates to work for Ralph. They have that right, just as I have the right to not waste my energy. I will continue to work on progressive causes - including politics and I look forward to the day that Ralph Nader dies so that we can all get on with our political lives. (well, not really, but you know what I mean)
Sincerely,
Blah, blah, blah

While I know she wants nothing to do with this...I wan't to make sweet love to
Rachel Maddow.
Oh sure...she doesn't have time...and she's gay...and she has a partner...but seeing as how everything is about me...
I want to make sweet love to
Rachel Maddow.
And I want
Joe Scarborough to watch.
