Dear Green Party,
This open letter is to inform you that, starting immediately, I will no longer be working on behalf of the party. I will continue to remain registered as a Green as long as I'm in a state that allows me to. I will also continue to give money (when I have some) to Green candidates. But I will not organize, petition, write letters for, or take positions within the party. I will return to being a leader within the party the day after Ralph Nader dies.
Let me explain.
I am firmly committed to the Green Party's Ten Key Values. I try to uphold such ideals in my daily life. The work I have done on behalf of the party has been rewarding as much as it has been frustrating. I have endured countless self-labeled
progressives use every illogical excuse for not working on behalf of the only party that upholds their ideals. That being said, I have always been willing to do the work. But I cannot expound any more energy for a cause that has Greens who either work to help the party grow or sit on their asses and do nothing, suddenly become enthralled every time Ralph Nader farts.
This is a bizarre cult of personality that I cannot support and will not work against. Ralph Nader is a brilliant man. And like most brilliant people, he comes with some interesting quirks. He does not seem to play well with others. Like puppies who are abused but still come back to their masters, Greens continually go back to Ralph even when he refuses to register green, not endorse the green platform and behaves as if he does not have to follow established procedure to become the green candidate for president. And yet many abandon their party to work for this guy - enabling his behavior.
I am not of the opinion that he shouldn't run for President. But I am of the opinion that if he will not work with the Greens, we should wish him good luck and move on with our own candidate. A way-too-large-number of greens have abandoned their candidates to work for Ralph. They have that right, just as I have the right to not waste my energy. I will continue to work on progressive causes - including politics and I look forward to the day that Ralph Nader dies so that we can all get on with our political lives. (well, not really, but you know what I mean)
Sincerely,
Blah, blah, blah
