About Melancholy Mouse says hello

This site came about because I'm either so efficient that I get work done quickly or I'm so good at procrastinating that I think I have all the time in the world at my disposable. Somone with so much free time on their hands is bound to either have a lot of hobbies or spend most of their time being bored. I do some of both, thus the site.

Melancholy Mouse says hello is just a way for me to share my hobbies with those interested. I'm not trying to force you or even interest you in doing what I do, but if you do, that's cool too. It's just to show you what other people do with their time.

This is actually my third site done using HTML code and even though you might say it still looks like any amateur could do it (and you'd probably be right as much as I wish you weren't), it still looks a lot better than what I've done before. I've never taken a class or used a web publishing program like DreamWeaver, but I do have a good book and myself, which is enough for now.

In case you were wondering about the name of the site, the logo was a picture that I took for a photography assignment and that I had titled 'Melancholy Mouse'. It was one of my more liked pictures, and therefore the name of the site. Also, sometimes websites have these odd and/or pretentious titles that exaggerate everything, so think of it as also poking fun.

About smallseto

  • Name: smallseto
  • Birthdate: 1987
  • Location: Los Angeles
  • Occupation: Trojan

As I said in the website portion of this page, I usually have loads of time on my hands. So in order to beat away the clutches of boredom, I pick up hobbies to keep myself entertained. Of course I have the standard ones of reading, writing, drawing, stuff like that. But I also have weird interests. Some past ones have included:

  • digging holes and playing in dirt (10)
  • modding Nerf guns (14)
  • plastic model building (16)
  • lock picking (17)

Sometimes they're really boring things or sometimes they're downright criminal. Sometimes people think they're intriguing and unique, sometimes peole think they're just plain dumb (I tend not to hang around those people). But whatever they seem to other people, they're enough to keep me from getting depressed since that's what tends to happen when my mind's not occupied. And as the saying goes, 'idle hands are the devil's playthings.'

Okay, on to more personal views and outlooks. Well, I'm a fascist that doesn't really like religion, enjoys dystopian societies and has a fascination with criminal and (para)military organizations. Now this doesn't necessarily mean I want to live in a world where they all exist and run rampant...I just derive entertainment from the concept of them (for personal reasons that I don't have to explain right now).

I'm a fascist in that I've always believed in strong military nationalism (not necessarily the United States') and totalitarian dictatorship, which was apparent when I was too young to even know what a fascist was. My family apparently knew from the government and military that I had created in my Lego world. (My mom's reasoning for this is that I was born on the border between Mars and Pisces (but we've always called me a Pisces...) and have a war-like spirit and mind.)

It used to bother me when I was young (I didn't like being called a communist due to the dictator thing). But as I got older and understood what a fascist was and that I was one, I learned to just live with it. No point in changing what I am when there's nothing wrong with it. I'm not hurting anyone with it nor preaching it to anyone. Enough with the fascist stuff though already.

On to something new, not so controversial. I know, ethnicity! My dad is a Japanese immigrant and my mom is between a second and third generation Japanese-American, which in my opinion makes me neither sansei or yonsei. To all of you out there who greatly dislike me now, just know that it wasn't me who made your grandparents learn Japanese, nor was it me who changed your country's name from a 'C' to a 'K' just because 'C' comes before 'J' (which when you think about it, makes no sense. Why would a nationalistic Japan make a country's name come after its own in the English language? In the Japanses language, 'Ko' comes before 'Ni'. It was probably just changed from 'C' to 'K' due to the fact that in Japanese, there is no 'Co', but there is a 'Ko'. Korea isn't even called "Korea" in Japanese, but "Hankoku").

I, like most Japanese youths removed from their ethnicity, am heavily interested in my heritage and take great pride in it. My mom likes to think that my strong interest in Japanese culture, past and contemporary, is due to my dad, who has cultivated an interest and awe of his homeland. She's probably right, too.

Now that Im in college, its not as great as I thought it would be. When I was younger, I saw college as an opportunity to pursue any and all of my interests; to learn more about the world around me and how it functions and how I function within it. Well, most of the excitement and interest is gone. Thats what happens when you declare a major.

Im a declared Accounting major and plan to throw in a minor like Psychology. But what that Accounting major has done was to lock me into a set academic career that doesnt leave me with many opportunities to explore other fields or interests. I always wanted to learn a foreign language at the college level (Japanese, Chinese, Korean, German, Italian, etc.), but a foreign language is not mandatory for my major and therefore unnecessary to waste elective units on.

That and USC doesnt offer some of the classes that I would like to enroll in. But seeing as how I plan on attending summer school anyway at Pasadena City College for microeconomics, I might as well take advantage of what they have to offer. So I plan on taking language and arts courses. That way, I can pursue my interests without interfering with my major, and Ill still be taught by good teachers at PCC.

Since I do want to know a lot about a lot, I want to have some proof of it. So after I attend my four year university, I plan to get a couple of associates degrees from a Jr. College like PCC or GCC. Basically, I dont want to have to leave school and work the rest of my life. I dont want to be stuck in an accounting job at the age of 40. I dont even want to be there at 35, but I know the likelihood of that happening.

Anyway, that's enough for now. If you want to know more about me or even want to *gasp* get to know me, e-mail me. It's just one more thing to keep the boredom at bay.
