The Ross Creek Cedars
These pics are from when Dennis and I went to the Ross Creek Cedars in Northwest Montana.
When we first arrived we saw a few trees that were pretty amazing. We didn't realize these weren't the "big ones". The pic on the right is looking up inside the tree that Dennis is standing in on the right.
This was one of the larger trees in the grove. Dennis and I are both fairly big guys around six feet. You can see we look pretty small next to this cedar. In defense of Dennis, he is smaller than me since he was able to squeeze through a small hole in the base of the tree to get the picture below.
I took some more pictures with Dennis in them to get a better perspective of the size of the trees. In the picture on the right, two cedars have grown so close their roots have begun to intertwine.
If you look closely at this last picture you can see a normal sized park bench on the right of the path. Again it gives a little better idea of the size.
Well even though it was raining the day we went, it was still a great time to see some natural history. I think we both left feeling a little smaller. Especially when you consider that when we counted the rings on one of the cedars that had fallen, we realized it was around 800 years old. Just think of who was around that long ago?!
