Commonly available workshops are listed below. Contact us to negotiate sessions tailored to your needs.

Casual Hula Hoops

This popular workshop runs for half an hour, and is suitable for festival family and community days with children. Asphyxia brings a bundle of hula hoops, and starts demonstrating herself - interested kids can come and grab a hoop, have a try, and get pointers, help and inspiration from Asphyxia.

Hula Hoop Workshop

This class can run for one hour or half an hour. A group of participants is taken through the basics of hula hoop tuition, including hoop spinning around the waist, hands, arms, knees, and simple throwing techniques.

Family Balance

Suitable for parents with children, or brothers and sisters, this class teaches kids and adults to lift and balance on each other, forming a variety of shapes and positions. Parents learn how to feel safe to play with their kids in an exciting physical way. This workshop is also suitable for non-family members to learn acrobalance and runs for one hour.

Tumbling Workshop

Participants learn to turn cartwheels, do saults on the floor and balance a handstand. This workshop runs for an hour and is suitable for kids and adults with a fairly basic level of fitness.

Clown and Performance Skills

This workshop is suitable for those with limited clowning experience. Participants learn what constitutes a clown, how to think and be like a clown, and how to work with material from their own lives to use on stage as their clown character. Performance techniques for engaging with the audience and dramatising their material are also covered. This workshop can be a brief one hour session, but is best suited to at least two hours, and can be presented as a series of workshops in which the participants build on and practise what they have learnt in previous sessions.

Developing Your Own Act

This workshop examines the process, from start to finish, for development of an act ready for performance. Participants learn how to choose a type of act that suits their target market, what market research is needed, and how to turn that gem of an idea into a show. All aspects of production are considered, including budgeting, development of a timeline, development of marketing materials, obtaining feedback about works in progress, and approaching the target market to sell the work.

Developing Your Own Theatre Show

Participants learn how to go about developing their own theatre show. The process begins with germinating an idea, applying for funding, and creative development. Once the show has been made, the next step is considering performance options, such as home seasons and touring. The tasks involved in co-ordinating each of these are covered in detail, including budgeting, marketing, development and distribution of marketing materials, and creating a timeline for production.
