< Warm-up >
The judge came in,
and people stood up. Defense side and offence side took their sit at each side
(right and left). Right in front of the judge, there were witnesses. Behind of the
defense side, there were three jurors. The journalists, the video man, and I
were scattered in the room.
< Witnesses >
There were several
witnesses of the trial. Most of the witnesses were the characters in the
Lord of the Flies. They were Simon, Piggy, Ralph, Sam and Eric, Roger, the
pilot, and etc. The lawyers asked them about the situation in the island in
their point of views. A psychologist was chosen to be a defense witness. She
said that the boys on the island were too young to know and act morally. They
were trapped on the island without supervision of any adult.
< Jack and offence lawyer
>
The offence lawyer
needed to prove that Jack was guilty. He asked Jack¡¯s fault strongly. And Jack
need to prove his innocent. Their arguing was strong and tight. For example,
the lawyer asked Jack whether he hunted the pigs for fun. Jack answered that
the boys needed meat to survive. However, the lawyer still insisted that the
pig hunting was unnecessary. He wanted Jack¡¯s answer in yes or no, but Jack
wanted to explain. Finally, the judge needed to interfere and required Jack¡¯s
answer in yes or no.
< The Decision >
The judge and the
jurors came out and talked in the hall to decide whether Jack was guilty. Only
the judge, the jurors, and the defense side stood up. The judge asked the
jurors and the said that Jack was guilty. The judge asked several questions,
such as conspiracy, instigation, and etc., the juror answered guilty for all
questions. The defense side lost the trial.

The trial was between Jack Marridew¡¯s
defense and other people (offence). There were three lawyers for each side, a
judge, three jurors, and other characters of Lord of the Flies for witness. The characters were Jack, Ralph,
Piggy, Sam & Eric, the pilot, and etc. And a psychologist was also chosen
to be a witness. Journalists, a video man, and I, sketch artist, had to
describe and capture situation of the courtroom.
During the lab, people were working on
their project. And I observed other people. I had to observed and sketch them.
That was my job. I let them to do their work. I did not need their freezing
poses. These sketches helped me during and after the trial. I had taken the
sketches therefore; I did not have to take sketches of people¡¯s each face
again. During the trial I sit at a corner, near the judge. Definitely, I was a
spectator of the trial. I watched the people and took some sketches. First, the
lawyers of both sides came out and had speeches about their attitudes. Then,
each witness came out and pledged on the Bible (actually, American Literature)
orderly. There were some troubles between the lawyers, and the judge interfered
to make them calm down. After all witnesses had been asked, the judge and the
jurors made a decision. They decided that Jack was guilty. I needed to decide
several important scenes. I chose the witnesses, Jack and offence lawyer¡¯s
taking, and the decision as important scenes.
All the people were working on their
works. My job was observing and sketching other people. Before the trial, I was
not really interested to know every single person in the class. However, now, I
know who they are. Honestly, this project was annoying for me, but it also
helped me. I got more interests on the class then before.
