Before leaving Brevik, my grandfather, HANS ANDREAS HANSEN, married ELISE CHRISTIANE LARSDATTER in 1896.  They were married in the Eidanger church and after their marriage resided at Øen 57 in Brevik.

They had a son in 1897, EDVIN KONRAD HANSEN.  Unfortunately, ELISE, known as CHRISTIANE, died in November 1900 of pneumonia.  Shortly after, my grandfather made his way to Chicago.  Why Chicago?  His oldest sister, also named CHRISTIANE, was living there and I believe he had visited her there several times in the 1890s.
