And besides, it is so 1996 -- so web-retro. If you haven't discovered the wonderfully affordable world of MP3 files, I suggest you get off your arse and find out. For those who scour the web and battle with ratio servers, save yourself some heartache and get Napster, available for free on Windows and Linux platforms (sorry Mac-ers, get Virtual PC or pick up an ultra-cheap Windows box and shoot them over to your Mac). But everyone can use the simplest, butt-ugly MP3 search engine out there at the blandly named Oth Net. You probably won't find a better, quicker MP3 search engine that works.   buy take   Underworld Baby, I can keep it up for 8 minutes! Alright, so it's not me: it's Underworld. Wonderfully long tracks, ranging from the happily digestible techno of "Cowgirl" to the hauntingly graceful "Dirty Epic."          buy take   Apoptygma Berzerk Yes, we will possibly all vomit if we hear "Non-stop Violence (CNN Version)" one more time, so get past it and dig deeper. Probably me ol' favorites by Apop are "Eclipse," "Beatbox," and "Paranoia (Haunted Club Version)."   buy take   Death in Vegas Another varied group, which is nice for a change. You'll be looking far and wide for a better song than "Rocco (Sing for a Drink Mix)." There is also a must-have cut featuring Iggy Pop in "Aisha."          buy take   Andrea Parker Chick DJ from hell. You've got to admire a person who says Fatboy Slim sucks. Her elusive album is called "Kiss My Arp," of which "The Unknown" is a veddy, veddy nice cut.   buy take   Chemlab Good techno-industrial band that often sound better when mixed by other industrialites. There is an absolutely phenomenal mix known as "Electric Molecular (KMFDM Death Before Taxes Mix)."          buy take   Depeche Mode A staple. A foundation. The shit. There are soooo many mixes of DM songs on the net. If you like your Depeche Mode depeche, check out the mixes by Paul Oakenfold and Razormaid.   buy take   Hanzel und Gretyl Avast ye swabs! Let's dump this water-bound bark for something a little more manufactured and prone to launching in space. Space operas, aliens, galactic conquest. What more do you want?          buy take   Ministry Absolutely. You're right. Their last few albums have sucked like they are the vacuum from hell. But you will find no better industrial music than those songs off "Mind," "Land," and "Psalm."   buy take   Project Pitchfork A pleasurable amount of noise and beats coming from two guys, as far as I can tell. Go deeper than "Steel Rose (Apoptygma Berzerk Mix)" and further into "Corps D'amour" and "En Garde."          buy take   Propellerheads Very akin in range to Death in Vegas. Quick, blistering techno when they want. Junglebeats when they want. Retro when they want. James Bond-ish when they want. Admit it, you want.   buy take   Boom Boom Satellites One of the few groups that are better experienced live than on album. I mean really, really, really good live. High-speed techno beats from three Japanese chaps that have an ear and quick hands.          buy take   Fluke An accomplished mixer and DJ who also happens to have some excellent solo stuff. Two of my favorites you ask? How kind of you. I'd have to say "Absurd (Headrillaz Dub Remix)" and "Atom Bomb."   buy take   Single Gun Theory We've got America, Europe, and a little of Asia in the list. Lest I become negligent, check out the female-led Australian group known as Single Gun Theory. You'll want to cry over "Motherland."          buy take   Banco de Gaia Find them. Buy them. For God's sake, don't try to download them if you're on dial-up. Some of their songs run for over 30 minutes, and you'll be very happy for that. Unless you're downloading, that is.   buy take   PJ Harvey If you haven't been exposed to PJ Harvey over the last decade, you're in sorry, sorry shape. She's immensely talented lyrically and musically. And she has a voice that could sing a condom on you and scare it off in the next verse. Rowwwr!          buy take   Good Mixers When you delve into the MP3s, be sure to check out the various versions mixed by these influential DJs: John Digweed, Paul Oakenfield, Fluke, Calderone, William Orbit, Sasha, and Razormaid Oh hell, just about any other electro-industrial group mixing songs for each other won't hurt either.
