How to Skimboard
Skimboard Lingo
Once you learn how to skimboard, it comes pretty easily. I didn't really know what I was doing when I first started, except for the few webpages I found, and the other skimboarders that I had seen. So I tried a few times  messed up because I didn't throw the board right, or because I started running at the wrong time, with the wrong wave.  After you got the basics down, the rest comes pretty naturally.

Start about 20 feet from the water, and if your sandskimming, (just skimming on the sand, no wave riding) go at a strong angle, almost in line with the water. Start running, but not too fast, as you do not want to lose control.

Throw your board down on the water (not really that rough but you know) and it will skim. Run next to it for a few steps (try to get it down to two after more practice), and then run on to it. By running onto your board, it helps reduce speed lose. Keep your balence until for whatever reason you aren't skimming anymore.

That is the easiest  kind of skimboarding, sandskimming and I really recommend you practice that before moving on to the actual wave riding. It helps you get the feel of the board and get your balence.

Tips

1. When you are running, hold your board parallel to the ground, that way when you throw it, the nose doesn't stick into the ground.

2.When you get onto the board, place your front foot in the middle, and your back foot more towards the back. I've found this placement of the feet help, so you don't sink as easily. But then again, anyway you can get up onto the board and stay there is good.

3. When you hold your skimboard, if you are regular, hold the board on your right side. Place your right hand at the back of the board, and your left hand on the side, closer to the top. If you are goofy, hold it on your left side, place your left hand at the back. Place your right hand on the side towards the
front. (
Goofy, or Regular?)
