The latest ska news. Updated whenever I feel like it.

Ska News

First some more RBF news.  I participated in a web Chat with Reel Big Fish.  Big deal right?  Well i helped out the webmaster with problems he was having with the chat room, so he let me ask some private questions. Read it here.

REEL BIG FISH GETS HI-TECH

It's true, Reel Big Fish is in the process of making a DVD.  YEAH!!!!!  I believe it's supposed to contain music videos, and live performances.

CAN'T FORGET OLD NEWS

CROUCHING FISH, HIDDEN FINGER TOUR

Reel Big Fish are doing another tour this summer.  The tour is with Goldfinger and homegrown, the movie life, and other bands on certain dates.  The press release promises new and old material from RBF and GOLDFINGER.  All i want is to hear RBF live, if they play stuff from their new album, that would be great.  I already bought my tickets.

Another Two Bites The Dust

It's official.  The band I believed to be one of the greatest ska/punk bands in my time (despite their latest album)  has broken up.  Telegraph, yeah i know you haven't heard of them.  Anyway another ska/punk band Jeffries Fan Club has also broken up.

OLDER NEWS

Jeff Davidson Leaves Catch 22- Search For A New Vocalist Begins
East Brunswick, NJ- A message from Victory Records recording artist CATCH 22: "Hello everyone, I usually love posting news on the website, but today I have some bad news for everyone. After the European tour in May we will again be looking to replace a valuable member of the band. Jeff Davidson (lead singer) has decided to move on with his personal life and is quitting. When we found out this news we were obviously devastated and weren't really sure what to do. After talking with a ton of supportive friends, family, and fans of the band we have decided to move on and try to find someone who wants to play in Catch 22 as much as the six remaining members do. We are really sorry that we have to cancel our US tour w/ RX Bandits. We were really looking forward to playing those shows, but now we need the time to find a new singer. Having gone through this once before we know how hard it is going to be, but we love playing in this band more than anything else in the world so we feel it's worth it. If you are interested in auditioning, know someone who you think would be interested in joining, or you just want to comment, please email me at [email protected]. This has been a pretty sad time for all of us in the band, so positive comments would be appreciated. The only requirements are that you have to be out of High School as of June, you must have a kick ass voice and a ton of energy, you have to be able to tour and you must live in or near New Jersey. So again we are really sorry but we are going to try to keep going stronger than ever. Kevin, Pat, Chris, Pat, Ryan, and Ian. Catch 22" ( catch22-music.com)

Where Are They Now? Spring Heeled Jack
Proably CT's most succesful ska band SHJ!  Wanna know what they're doing now?

Chris Rhodes has been playing with the Bosstones since the summer time. He did the Warped Tour and managed to tour Europe for the first time. He's seems to be having a great time.

(Re)Pete Wasilewski is now a member of Less Than Jake. He's gotten to play Europe already as well as opening for Bon Jovi's last big stadium tour.

Dave Karcich is a permanent part of the new Pilfers lineup and from the sound of it, the Pilfers are making another big change. I haven't seen any recent shows but it seems that they are a bit different than you may have remembered them. From what I'm hearing, Vinnie is now the lead singer with Coolie doing backups. I have yet to check them out. I believe Dave is next in line to hit Europe since the Pilfers are on their way there soon.

Ron Ragona has a new band called the Lost City Angels and their website can be found at Welcome to the Lost City Angels Website . Check it out. DO NOT expect a SHJ sound alike. They're great all the same though.

Tyler Jones, Mike Pellegrino and Rick Omonte are all still dabbling in music but have nothing major planned. They're pretty much back to normal life in CT but everyone is doing well and they're still the same great guys they always were.

I can honestly say that there are NO planned reunion shows but there's always the talk that they would like to do another show or at least a "true" final show since Chris wasn't at the one they had. Sorry if that's bad news for everyone but I don't want you to set your hopes high on it especially since there was that rumor of them getting back together for Christmas of 2000 and that didn't happen.

OK...some merch info.....

Mass Appeal Madness, the SHJ movie/documetary by their friend Kyle Herman, is still available on Amazon.com. The link is Amazon.com: buying info: Mass Appeal Madness Spring Heeled Jack in California . It runs for $19.99 and is the best thing I can suggest if you want to know what it was like to be around the guys backstage during tours and shows. Since it was only sold at one show, their last, I don't think a lot of fans are even aware this exists. Grab it while you can!!!!

Speaking of grabbing while you can, BOTH CD'S ARE NOW OUT OF PRINT!!!! Songs From Suburbia went out when Ignition Records bit the dust. Moon Records continued to sell Static World View until they recently announced their
demise ( the end of Moon Ska Records, NYC ). I checked out CDNow.com and they only offer Static, and that's only through backorder. Amazon.com has Static available for $7.99. It's unclear if this a used price or if the CD is a new copy. TowerRecords.com is carrying Static as well. As you can see, Suburbia is near impossible to find. Look for Static to be just as tough in the coming months. I'm sure most of you all have both CD's but there are always those stragglers who never got it.  (skapunkandotherjunk.com)

MUCH OLDER NEWS

So many bands, so little time - Here a review and photos.

MOJO IS A NO NO - Forget the news below.  Reel Big fish probably won't even release their new album for at least a year.  Mojo records, the record company of bands i like such as Reel Big Fish, Goldfinger, The Cherry Poppin' Daddies, and the pilfers, has closed down.  Mojo was a sub-label to the biggest record company in the US universal records.  Universal dropped mojo cause an underground following isn't paying the bills.  Gee, i didn't see this coming.  WARNING: THE NEXT NEWS IS NOT OFFICIAL, IT CAME FROM A SOURCE THAT MAY NOT BE RIGHT.  Since reel big fish is the most popular band on the label, Universal may put Reel big fish on another sub-label.

THIS NEWS IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OLD!

Guess what I heard, Scott from Reel Big Fish is going to have lead vocals on a couple of tracks on the new album.  Good luck scott.

My favorite band Reel Big Fish is working on a new album.  If you want to learn more about it go to either www.reelbigfish.com   or  www.reel-big-fish.com .

I'm sorry to say my old logo isn't cutting it anymore.  My new logo is now up a running.  Goodbye old friend.
