Sisters Need A Place

System Navigation

One of the Programs SNAP has established is the program of System Navigation.

System Navigation is where SNAP volunteers help Muslim Women and their families with navigating the sometimes confusing public and private service programs available to the public, including Public Assistance (welfare), medical services, housing, the job market, educational system, safety issues and legal issues.

Many times having another Muslim Sister to accompany a fellow Muslim is enough, however sometimes the needy Muslimah also has to navigate the barriers of culture and language as well. This can be a very confusing situation, but in times of crisis the situation can be one of great anguish and frustration.

SNAP helps in such cases.

Many times due to language & cultural backgrounds, many Muslim women do not recognize that services are available or know how to access the services, or may not have the means of transportation.

SNAP helps in such cases.

At other times the situation is one of rape or some other physical violence against a Muslimah, and SNAP helps in those cases as well.

Sometimes SNAP is called into crisis situations by husbands who have been falsely accused of domestic violence and who need the help of SNAP to break down cultural stereotypes and family court's system of disolution of families.

SNAP helps in such cases.
